Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The 3545s are a lovely little tractor - great one to have in your collection. Did you get the Sierra van sold after?

hi all , im back after a bit of a hiatus , back trouble !!!

anyway the fleet has kind of grown somewhat since i last wrote , i am now the proud owner of a 79' zetor crystal 8011 and also a low hours ( but not running ) zetor 4011 and a 3011 that spent some time in a pond judging by the state of it and the amount of water i took out of the inside of it !!

we also purchased a 5545 which was the one we were looking for to complete our " 5 " series line up , here are a few pictures to whet your appetite , there will also be an update to follow on the progress of our 5611 , stay tuned ............

and i haven't forgot about the 5611 , i f you remember back to earlier posts she was in a sorry enough state when we dragged it out from under a tree where it had lain for over 20 years , everything was seized up on it and when we managed to get it stripped down we discovered that the cab had gone rotten in some major places too , so it was out with the grinders to start the long process of cutting and welding in new bits while trying to keep the integrity of the cab all the while , i will let the pics do the talking and you can make up[ your mind wether we are lunatics or not lol .

then after the welding was done came the unenviable task of wire brushing the whole cab and tractor and all the parts that came with it , this was a nightmare of a job and looking back now i wish the ould fella had bit the bullet and got a lad in to sand blast the whole fecking lot but he had a bad experience before and was reluctant to try sand blasting again ,

so 3 four inch grinders later ( the wire brush attachment shakes the ****e out of them internally and they burn out the brushes and main bearing in no time ) and after much much cursing sweating and loss of skin we managed to get her ready for paint ,

not before i had a run in with one of the grinders while i was laying under the tractor doing the underneath , it was my own fault really but a huge lesson was learnt about safety ,
the grinder had a wicked vibration in the handle due to a dodgy wire brush head so i couldn't keep a great grip on the trigger and after a long period it became impossible so i came up with the brain wave of putting a cable tie around the trigger thus leaving the grinder on full time ,

i was then controlling the on-off by removing the plug , anyway i was on my back grinding away when somehow it got caught in a tight part of the chassis and kicked back and came at me full pelt ,

i put up my arm to protect me face and got a lovely " love bite " from the wire brush right up the length of my arm , the job was then to get out from under the tractor without getting another bite form the bastard while it strangled itself around the floor . it was a mess and should never be attempted by anyone in there right mind !!!!

anyway here are some more pics ,

we have to start work on the cab next , it is going to be a bit of a pain to get the correct window rubbers but i have a chap in the Czech republic that thinks he can supply the correct ones , also have to get a new windscreen wiper assembly for the front and back windows and all new rubber mats for the floors , the same chap in Czech can supply new seat cushions and the padding for the mudguards inside so hopefully she will be coming together soon , the cab was and still is a pain in the arse to be honest but hopefully it will be worth it in the end , if there was no cab on it we would have finished it ages ago !!!!

When I see the work you do I feel so sorry for sending a 1971 3511 to scrapyard a few months ago, was in good working order but front hubs collapsed. Have a 4718 I would like to restore, running well but tin work is a disaster

oh i couldn't possibly choose from them and seeing as we have 6 more at home in the shed the decision would be very difficult lol

I've a friend who pesters the life out of me to let him look at this thread when he pops over, mental for it he is, he's restoring an old ford himself, It's a tremendous amount of work your doing so fair play :)

One thing that's always bugged me about tractors like those is the front wheels, the camber i guess you could call it, why is it so much? like it looks as if the wheels are going to break off, crude diagram like so \----/

Keep up the good work though! :)

thanks for the kind comments toasted , not really sure what the reason is for the camber on the front , it doesnt seem to be as bad on the 4 wheel drive models but the 5611 that we are currently restoring seems to have a real baw on it !!!

ha yeah and it turns out she is a s slow as feck ........... a chap stopped us in the petrol station in grange on our way to the run today and said he used to work on " TDI " when he was a young apprentice mechanic in rosscommon , he remembered her because she was a bit o rarity back then being such a small 4 wheel drive .

Anytime! It's always caught my eye, and caused me some concern, because it looks as if they're about to break off, but if they're meant to be that way then i guess that's that!

What sort of condition were these yokes in mechanically when you got them. Any Zetors I've ever experienced had oil leaks, dodgy hydraulics etc. did ye have to do much to them mechanically or is it mainly visual stuff?

  • Registered Users Posts: 895 ✭✭✭greendragon3

well we are just back in the door from a great run , over 50 miles and nearly everything went like clockwork , all except the 5511 which ran out of diesel on the way to the petrol station ooooops , anyway a quick bleed and we were away again and there was a massive turn out at the Kevin fowley memorial tractor run when we arrived in mullaghmore , 142 tractors was the final count and i believe a large sum of money was gathered fro MS and the north west hospice so it was a great day all round , here are the only few pictures i managed to get because i was flat out driving .

well im not sure if the pictures are at the beginning of this thread but the 2511 was in three bits and seized solid when we got it so a lot of mechanical work had to be done to her before any of the cosmetic work started . i think so far the 3511 was the only one we didnt have to do much to mechanically , all the rest had the usual problems that you highlighted and lets not forget the brakes !!! which i think was zetors downfall especially in this country , it put a lot of people off doing them because they are " inboard brakes " and a bit of a nightmare to do first time round but once you do them a few times its handy enough .:D

yeah i have a 3011 at home awaiting restoration that was originally blue so hopefully she will return that color , i had my eye on a blue 2011 in mayo for some time ( very very rare machine now ) but sadly she went to the crusher a few months back unknown to me , pity she was running and all !!!!!

so its back to the ould grindstone today after a bit of a break , it was time to re-fit the cab and start putting some of the shiny bits back on the 5611 , the seat is visible in some of the pictures , we managed to get a set of arm rest rubbers and a new " air bag " cushion type thing which you inflate , we also managed to save the hydraulic piston that takes the weight of the driver , most of the seat is re-assembled now except for the cushions which we are having re-upholstered , some pics of the progress today .

hi all , back with another update and guess what no broken glass !!!! scared.gifcrying.gifthumbup1.gif ,

chanced the first pain yesterday using some strimmer chord and plenty of fairy liquid and it popped right in no bother ,
the only draw back really is we couldn't get any genuine window rubbers so we got the nearest thing in a roll and had to cut them to size ,
only thing is there are some gaps in the corners where the original rubbers would have had an extra " triangular " piece to fill out these corners , ah well some black window sealer should sort this hopefully ,

we got all the side and front windows done and we are waiting on a different rubber for the windscreen , don't want it falling out with the first bump we hit blushing.gifspeechless.gif,
anyway so far so good , we managed to get the freshly painted mudguards fitted as well and it transforms the tractor ,

just need to get our hands on a set of 30" rear wheels now to fill out the arches , she has 14.9 / 28's on at the moment and they are very scittery looking on her so the bigger set will fill her out nicely and also leave her faster on the road which is always a bonus ,

if you know of the whereabouts of a set of 30" zetor wheels give me a bell on 0877437783 or email me on terrybaker63@gmail.com please .

    some pictures .

Can any of you Zetor guys point me to a good reference site for Zetor 2511 info.

Was moving my own 72 Zetor yesterday, and noticed there was little or no clutch, even with clutch fully depressed, its creeping.

So I never had time to have a good luck, hence the surfing now in preperation. Is it hydraulic or rod clutch??

    thanks

    k

hi kadman , sounds like your clutch plate may be temporally seized due to lack of use ( happens regularly enough with the older ones ) , the clutch is rod operated and is a twin disc design , if one of the discs sticks to the pressure plate due to damp conditions lack of use this can cause it to drag and not operate properly , the best solution is to start the tractor and let it tick over until it reaches proper operating temperature , then try pumping the clutch pedal quickly a number of times , if this does not work then knock the tractor off leaving the throttle fully closed , making sure you are on a flat surface away from any buildings etc put the tractor in gear 3rd or 4th high should do , then leave your foot off the clutch pedal and press the starter while pressing the brake pedal , this should shock the disc away from the pressure plate and solve your problem , if neither of these quick fixes work then im afraid you will have to split the tractor and have a closer look at the clutch .

Ha,ha. I Had a triumph 1300 back in the day, that needed the same method when left unused for a few months.

    Thanks

Tractor running and driving again. Started it in 3rd gear and drove around for a while.
But clutch will have to be done, despite adjusting the clutch rod, little or no improvement in gear changing, so suspect worn clutch discs.
Question, where is the best supplier for these, approximate cost, and what sort of time frame for this.
I have heavy lifting and support equipment, so I wont be doing this with the argos jack.lol
