You will have to take the hols during this period (unless your Tus Teamleader can relocate you ). This being the case, and bearing in mind that you get approx 81hrs hols per year, you will have to use approx 39hrs worst case scenario*

    *Check with you Teamleader :)

Wow that's alot of holiday days to be taking. That's why I was asking my original question about Christmas day etc being a bank holiday. I am hoping I get 3 holiday days back for Christmas day, Stephens day and New Years day. That way I would only use 2days holiday leave. I will check with my teamleader because I'm even confusing myself now!

Just wondering what kinda jobs are there for people who don't have much experience working?
I've only done a year's work with some low level computer courses in between.
I have an appointment to see the team leader Wednesday but I'm just curious.
even that job was a basic factory job

There are a whole range of jobs. The most important thing for you to think about is what you would like to do.

Some people really put thought into what they would like on their CV at the end of it while others don't give it a second thought and just want to get the 12 months over asap.

Hav received an invitation to attend an initial interview on Thursday, there is a profile form they want filling out and bringing to the interview. It asks if you agree to be Garda vetted. If you don't agree is that the end of it? Also it asks for two references, if I don't have any references what happens then? Has anyone been in this position before?

Yes that's right, but last time there was no "profile" form to be filled in before arrival.

The letter arrived today asking me to the meeting Thursday - should I email the person concerned and tell him ? I am refusing the Garda vetting so how will that play out?

They should have you on record as being interviewed. Don't see why you have to jump thru the hoops again. Odd.

on my time sheets I just filled in xmas days etc as a public holiday 8 hours and got the people I work for to sign the sheet and gave it in so I put 24 hours of public holidays for the 3 days over xmas.

Question, you know the sheets to sign in/out when doing the Tus programme. Does that get given back to Tus or is it something that whoever you are working with keeps an eye on?

I have just received one of these letters from the social welfare to apply for a position on the Tús programme.

I take home €372.40 as I am claiming for my wife and two dependants

So if I get the €20 euro top up that will push me to €392.40, so do I take it that I will actually only get just €3.30 extra since 4% of €392.40 is €15.69.

Will there be any other deductions? Will I have to pay any tax if I am claiming for my wife and two dependants?

I got a tus letter there today. Im only getting 40 euro a week. I wrote back and stated that I am a university honors graduate and I have attended a few interviews, as the job market for what I want to do is almost stagnant, for work in relation to my degree. I also said i did not do 4 years of university to sweep leaves for the council as a lower wage worker. I then went on to say that I have paid over 2,000 euros in fees and the 40 euro a week barely gets me around the country for interviews. I also said I can provide proof of jobs that I have applied and have had interviews for. Surely they cant cut me off for that.

Was in the same situation as you just finished scheme was getting 360 ended up paying 30 euro tax every week so much for the extra 20 con job.
You can claim Some of the tax you paid once you finished the scheme

Thanks for the reply. Ye I checked with my teamleader and I can use xmas day etc as public holidays so I only need to take 15hrs holidays to get the two weeks off so it's not as bad as I thought :)

Would you not be in a better position by doing the programme? You'd be getting 200euro a week and could still apply for jobs in the area you are qualified for. If you do get a job you are allowed to leave the programme

You'll get an extra 168 per week for 19.5hrs for 52 weeks. And you walk away if you get a job. Dont see the issue myself.

Yep, your topup will be all but eroded with PRSI but you should have zero tax implication unless your other half is working and earning a very good wage.

You can claim Some of the tax you paid once you finished the scheme
I'd guess that your tax credits were not proportioned correctly. You should be able to claim back all overpaid taxes.

Just an update on my wife's situation.

She sent her Tús form back a few weeks ago, saying that she has 2 years on a CE Scheme already and is currently doing a Solas Online Course through eCollege.ie (along with a detailed letter from her online tutor).

She then got an invite to a Group Engagement Session this morning. She just rang me there to tell me that everybody that attended this session where people who said "NO" to the Tús Scheme and everybody was given the form again and forced to say "YES" or have their payment stopped.

So much for having a choice if they are going to force people onto the scheme regardless

I am finishing up my year on Tus at the end of next week. I was given the letter from my Tus supervisor and was told to take it to the SW office this week, so there wouldn't be any delay in my payments starting back up.

I was told at the SW office they couldn't accept it, and I had to fill in forms and return them on the Monday following my finish date. They also implied, I would probably have to see the CWO if I want any money till they get my claim started again.

I asked my supervisor several times if there would be issues like this and I was assured it would be a seamless transition back to JSB.

As it's so close to Christmas, I am really worried that my claim won't be sorted out till the New Year (after reading some of the posts re:delays on here) and I'll be left to fend till then with little or no money.

I appreciate that my situation might not be quite as 'doom and gloom' as I fear, but at the moment I am feeling physically sick and just a bit stressed out. After doing everything by the book and taking part in this scheme, I just believe it is wrong to mess someone about like this.

What has been a great experience, is ending on a sour note.

I was in a similar situation a few months back. I called into the Social Welfare office and was given the forms to fill out and told to drop them back in on the Monday after I'd finished --she said they couldn't take/process the forms before them. When I dropped in the forms, I asked when I'd be back in payment - the woman in the office said she had 'no clue.' Like you, my supervisor had told me that the transition would be seamless - and in the end, it was - it just wasn't made to seem that way by the woman in the SW office.

I had a letter about a week later from the deciding officer - and I was back in payment straight away -I might have missed out on one week -or three days I think - but that payment was included the week after. There wasn't any delay. And there shouldn't be for you either. I don't know why they make it seem that way when you call into SW. When I was talking to the woman in there she made it seem like there was zero communication going on and that she didn't really know anything much at all about the Tús scheme.

In relation to last 2 posts:

You start with Tus on a Monday. Assuming that you would have collected your post office payments on a Monday, you need to go to the PO on the day you start Tus to collect your last payment.

Due to the fact that DSP payments are paid from Wed to Tue, your last PO payment will be for 4 days from the week before you start with Tus (Wed/Thu/Fri/Sat). So basically 4/6 of your regular payment. This panics some, but you will then get your first full payment to your specified bank account 3 days later, on the Thursday of that week. Look it as a bit of a "Brucie Bonus" on week 1 but fear not, they will get it back if you are re-introduced to the SW system 52 weeks later.

I understand this and that does not have me worried. The fact it was suggested to me that I might not get any money at all for the following week by the SW, and some on here saying they didn't get payments for the first two weeks after leaving Tus. That has me worried, because then the likelihood is I'll have nothing till the New Year, as the second week falls on the double payment week (I get paid on Thursdays) and it will be doubtful the CWO will be in the Health Centre the following Tuesday 23rd Dec.

It might turn out fine, but knowing my local SW office and stories I've heard about the CWO, it might just not.

If it was any other time of the year I wouldn't be so worried, but I only have a 2 week window before the holiday shut down to get things sorted.

Though I strongly believe that I shouldn't have to be running around sorting this out. It should be the job of Tus and the SW to liaise an easy transition for the participant. It's not like we have a choice in doing the scheme. It's approx a 22km trip (one way) to my nearest SW office. Not an easy task when the buses only run on Thurs (4 hour wait till return), Fri (9 hour wait till return) and Sat (SW not open). I have to beg a lift to get there on a Monday and my lift has to travel approx 35km trip (one way) to get to me before that.

Are people on tus or not long finished it entitled to the social welfare Christmas bonus? when is it due to be paid?

When you are just about to finish your TUS placement your supervisor will give you a letter for the SW, and a small jar of vaseline,, the letter will be of no use to you whatsoever ,, but the jar of vaseline will come in very handy..

Thank you for the advice jos22, I will be working till 5.30pm on the last Friday, and there is no way I can leave early as the will only be myself and another Tus worker in the shop from 4pm. No matter how miffed I am with the whole thing atm, I can't let the shop down by not turning up.

Plus, I don't much fancy trying to find something to do for the 8 hours and 45 mins I'd have to wait for the return bus back home. I don't think the SW office would appreciate me camping in their office for the whole day. They might even class me as being unavailable for work!!! :D
