We are back to 12 holes for the Winter, one lad today had 2 holes in one in 12 holes- conditions were tough as well very windy- must be huge odds for that to happen. It must have cost him a fortune- you get half the 2's pot if you get a hole in one he only got €52 :(

I think I've heard before than the chances of having 2 in a full round is something like 64 million to 1.

Can someone explain to me how they work out the odds to get a hole in one?

Some fella is employed to just constantly hit balls, it took him 64 million hits to get 2 holes in one in the same round. So odds are 64000000:1

    :pac:

    I Saw the second one...crazy.

He should get 2/3rds, each hole in one gets a full share.

I don't know how they do it.

But if you have a large sample of rounds - (very large)

You can have all the scores that were scored - an easy way to do this would be use to use all scores in golf net

You could also compile statistic from across other golf unions - you end up with the number of times a par 3 was played and then number of times a hole in one was scored.

I'm guessing it is simply P(hole in one) = ( Number of hole in ones / total number of par 3s played)

    But above is a guess.

This would actually change for courses - playing ability etc - but the large sample would give the the probability for the full sample.

You could break it down then if you wanted to - all other categories.

I think it is a rubbish stat anyway - because I play on one course with 3 par 3s and the other one has 6 par 3s. Also one you are hitting 6/5 irons - the other 9 /pw.

You'd get started with some experience based data. For example howdidido would be able to tell you how many rounds it takes people on average to get a hole in one. After that its just maths.
