The amount of people in this thread with the brain of a trout is unreal

Why do some people think it's okay to make a mockery of people who have asked a question? Is that not the purpose of a discussion forum? So self-righteous.

That Cig/Cigire question has been asked every week to be honest. You won't go back 5 pages without seeing it. Other than that, people are clearly not paying attention to what's on their screens. It's as if they're not really bothered watching when it's on and then come in here asking what happened and who's so and so. I'd out it on a par with going to the cinema and having someone ask you every few minutes 'what's happening' even though you're both watching the exact sane thing!

Fair enough, but is it really that difficult to say "It's Cig - short for Cigire (Inspector) " as someone explained here.

I've been watching it and I didn't know what Cig was (it sounded like Kitt at times!) Fair enough I didn't ask, but so what if i I did? If someone knows the answer, why not just write it? Or ignore it. But writing smart arse comments instead? Nah. That's just ignorant.

Because a lot of the questions have been repetitively asked and repetitively answered and usually all it takes is a quick look over a few previous pages to find the answer to the question.
So some posters are giving the impression they are either too lazy to look over the thread or trolling. Neither of which contribute to the discussion.

What's ignorant is people watching a fecking show while surfing the net on their phones and coming in here for explanations of who someone is and what this someone is doing. No fecking attention spans these days.

I understand the Cig thing, it's not instantly apparent, maybe it should be stickied at the top of the forum or something.

It didn't bother me too much to be honest - I just figured 'I'll listen a bit better the next time'!!

Second last episode is tomorrow the 2nd. Last episode is November 9th. The Fall will start November 9th at 10:30pm after the last Love/Hate.

Before season 4 began Stuart Carolan said that season 4 and 5 were 2 seasons of 6episodes each and that they could be viewed as a single 12 episode series.

This is where the incorrect idea of 12 episodes in this series seems to have stemmed from.

Thanks for clearing that up ;)

All I did was ask what one nickname was that I couldn't catch when it is spoken? I wasn't asking for in depth character analysis.

So what is it is asked multiple times. Don't be getting yourself so worked up. As purplecow said, just ignore it if you don't like it.

And what makes you think I'm surfing the net while it's on?

Which is probably ironic considering the difference in the amount of time you spend here compared to me.

What is truly ignorant is making assumptions about people and lacking the good manners to respond in civil fashion.

It was one question about one word. Seriously get a grip.

Worked up? Perplexed more like. Every week without fail it's asked. I didn't know Cig was used as I'm not a cop but quite obviously it's a name for a higher ranking officer seen as they're all calling Mick Moynihan it and nobody else. It's in the context.

Mick Moynihan is the Inspector (Cigire as Gaeilge) before you ask. He's also known as Cig the odd time I think but I couldn't be 100% on that.

It was one question (over and over and over and over every week for the last month) about one word. Seriously get a grip.

    That's a fairer reflection.

Moaning about the question being asked IS getting worked up.

Why would it bother you how many times it was asked?

If you were actually getting asked constantly in person, sure, that would be a reason for anyone to get annoyed.

If you're getting upset over it posted on a message board, could be time to take a break.

I couldn't understand understand that one word. I'm not afraid to ask a question. And I don't have time to scrawl through hundreds of pages on the chance the question has been asked before.

I tried the search function, it didn't help, so I asked.

I wouldn't even have known about the upset it caused but for the email alerts. The only reason I responded was because I saw that purplecow1977 had the decency to speak out in my absence and it was only right that I should acknowledge that.

Actually, that the exact opposite of a "fair reflection" - you've altered my post. Added your own words.

I couldn't understand the reason for the responses which is why I engaged, but that is pretty strange behaviour.

Take care. I really mean that.

Are you broken? I said I'm hardly getting worked up, just astonished at the amount of times the question has been asked on this thread. I'd say scan back ten pages on any given page and you'll see it asked. Hardly hundreds. It would take 3 or 4 minutes to do. If you join a discussion, I would say it's a matter of etiquette to have a quick glance at what's gone before.

You shouldn't be getting emotional about it at all, i.e. astonished.

There are 250 pages in this second thread, 800 in the other. How do I know it has been asked? Which page is it on?

Seriously, YOU are are going to bring up "etiquette"? You edited another person post. Actually, interfered with it and altered the words. I'd be pretty sure that is violation of the rules of every discussion forum.

    Thank you.

However, that search is based on the word "cig".

My original question was asking what the word was - I couldn't catch it when it was spoken. It sounded to me like "gig".

A search for "gig moynihan love hate" (and various other combinations) was to no avail.

Had I known the word was "cig", I wouldn't have needed to ask the question here in the first place. I'd have figured it out the meaning eventual or ask someone with better Irish than I. :)

However, I appreciate the positive response - showing a person how to find an answer is as good as, if not better, than actually giving the answer.

And far better than whinging and moaning about said question.

    Cheers;)

Most people who went to primary school in Ireland should know well what a cigire is! Our teachers put the fear of God into us about how we'd better know our stuff when the cigire came. It was only later in life I realised it was the teachers being inspected not us

In fairness, the die hard fans tend to be on here discussing the show Sunday evening & Monday. Most people who show up with questions after that are probably casual enough viewers. No need to be so unwelcoming to these people, no one 'owns' this thread

Yes, but it should not be assumed here that every poster went to school in Ireland.

However, as pointed out above - it wasn't the meaning of the nickname that was the issue (at least not me), it was what the nickname actually was.

Try as I might over the last few days, I couldn't understand what the characters were actually saying. Not what they meant.

    Thank you. :)

Although, I do consider myself a "die hard" fan (been away - caught up with the Season 4 DVD just this week), I just don't spend that much time on the internet.

This current discourse probably amounts to two weeks worth for me.

Plus, I don't like spoilers. Honestly, I wish the RTÉ would stop showing adds. Everyone who is going to watch it already knows it's on.:D

Anyways, on this more positive note, I shall depart.

    Best of luck.

    Bye.

Interfered with and altered. Fantastic. Sounds like something the boys in the show would do with a drugs haul. They're drug dealers in case you missed that in any of the episodes.

I did read it - it was amongst the post and I thought you were saying that people surf the net instead of paying attention and THEN come to the forum to ask question, i.e. that if I paid attention I have known it was "Cig".

I wholeheartedly apologise - I see now I wronged you and understand the meaning. :oI hope you can see how I misunderstood though - in the context of the situation.

    Again, I am very sorry.

EDIT: BTW, I "unfollowed" the thread but I'm still getting email alerts - any idea why?

    Cheers

I think it's irrelevant whether someone went to school in Ireland or not. I'm all too familiar with the aul cigire and I still didn't cop it!

Yeah, that is exactly what you did.

You put your words into my post.

Now, get over the "Cig" thing. Seriously. It isn't healthy to be bothered by things like this.

    Look after yourself. Bye.
