Lads, as a three year employee of Davy I can say don't bother. I know about 20 guys and girls who came in through the grad program and they're all worked to the bone and paid ****e. Davy is not a good company to work for, as they are owned by 100 heavily indebted equity holders and refuse to pay out fairly to others. You're far better off heading to London and trying your luck there. And yes, the HR in Davy is a joke.

I hope you used a pseudonym for that post D Doyle or Davy HR won't be long figuring out who you are!

As an ex-employee I would say there is more than a grain of truth in what you are saying. However, I would also actively encourage any grad accepted to the Davy grad programme to take the place. There aren't many front office finance jobs in Ireland and you'll get good training at Davy as well as it being a good name on the CV.

Starting salary might have come down a bit in recent years, but I'd say €25-€30k would be the ball park.

When you are applying you should know that most positions are in private clients so that has the best chance of being successful. The institutional side (corp finance, research, equity/bond sales) is a good place to get in to if you can, but I doubt they'd be taking on many. The IT and Finance departments are more back/middle office roles.

Haha, yes it's a pseudonym, though I wouldn't place too much stock in their ability to deduce anything, and in any case their opinions are irrelevant to me. Good to hear you agree at least in part - and as an "ex"-employee I am assuming you were similarly displeased with their practices?

What you say is true in that there is very little in the way of options for grads looking for FO finance roles in Ireland, but I'd suggest that if you're serious about a successful career in finance you simply need to get out of Ireland, unfortunately.

And yes, it is an amazingly well-recognised name on one's CV. My disdain for the place is based on that fact that I worked very hard there for a number of years as saw little or no reward for my time and efforts.

On the salary front I'd be surprised if it was any higher thatn the 25k they offered in 2007.

Colbags, I would absolutely advise you to stick with the big 4 firm, as I have learned that accountancy is a superb qualification to have on your cv and opens many more doors than "I worked at a stockbroker".

If you're upset at bad pay, Davy is NOT the place to go, especially now, I imagine. They pay very poorly even in comparison to other Dublin firms. The number of times people working in finance would say something like "oh sure you're at Davy, 'the GS of Ireland', you must be coining it". My response, always embarrassing to give, elicited a response of shock on their part. There were people at other firms doing a less important and significantly less difficult job than mine who made double what I did. It was an incredibly frustrating time for me, and fortunately in my subsequent role my new employers did not ask me what I had been making what at Davy and just put me on their pay scale - starting on over double what I had been paid when leaving Davy.

I will not hesitate to say I regret spending time at that company, and wish I had moved to London immediately upon finishing college.

Has anyone heard back from the assessment centre stage???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 cribbit

Sorry to be bringing up an old thread but I am looking for some help. For those that are going or have already gone through the assessment centres - what are they looking in terms of the stock presentation? Any help - greatly appreciated it.

Hey Cribbit, have you received the email for the assessment centre? I've been told its generally just providing a financial analysis backing up why you'd buy and sell it, looking at P/e, EPS and so on.

Not yet but I am preparing in advance, just in case!! Have you heard anything back from first interview yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 Rorymac007

No not as of yet, you gave me a fright when I seen the post ha! How did you find the 1st interview? I presumed it was going to be more technical and financial as opposed to 90% competency based.

Sorry bout that :( a lot of comp Qs, fairly hard going but hopefully made it to the next stage. I assume stock would be an Irish stock on the Iseq. Any ideas on salary yet?
