Hi all, what's the 525d engine like? Been offered a 2005 touring auto for about 4,500, decent spec and I know the owner and it was always well looked after. I believe that version is a 2.5 but this is no longer the case in newer ones? Has anyone any experience of this engine/gearbox?

    Engine was 2497cc:

Although engine was a technical update, it seems that swirl flaps were still an issue for some:

In relation to the gearbox, what's the mileage and has anything shown up on the service history?

According to many, ZF Getrag advises owners of cars with the 6 speed auto boxes to get them serviced every 50,000 miles. BMW dealers deny that - they maintain that the ATF is lifetime. All I know is that I had to get the gearbox of my 05 E60 535d reconditioned at 142,000 miles.
