Graphics Card Upgrade

Currently using a HD7770 1GB. Have a 430w PSU which works with it despite it claiming to need 500w. I also have a 500w in another machine so that can be used. Basically looking for a good upgrade but don't want to break the bank. Recently got BL: Pre Sequel so looking to clock a sad amount of hours onto it :cool:

So how much do you want to spend?

A 2gb 750ti would be a decent low power upgrade that's reasonably cheap.

Sell the 7770 for €60 or whatever, get a GTX750 - the regular 750 at around €100 or Ti at about €130. Even the GTX750 is a decent amount faster than the 7770, would be a decent upgrade. It's about 25-30% faster than 7770 on average, 750Ti would be closer to 40-45%.

I guess I'd be willing to spend 200 give or take a bit. Games like Far Cry, Borderlands, Bioshock and maybe Battlefield would be what I play mostly

You could probably stretch to a 760gtx or R9 280 then if you want more performance than the 750ti.

Both are reasonably more power hungry than the 750ti though.

Shop around, you might get a good deal somewhere.

Pixmania.ie, Amazon.co.uk, Scan.co.uk, hardwareverswand.de are decent. There are others.

This seems decent with free delivery.

What brand is the 500w PSU you have. The 280 would be the most power hungry of the 3 cards.

It's also quite big so make sure it fits your case.

It's a Corsair. I've a Betfenix one but also a spare Fractal Core 1000 if needs be.

You're fine then. A decent 220w+ PSU would run a GTX750Ti, if you're looking at an R9 280, a quality 350w unit would suffice.

Short answer - get an r9 280, can be had for well under 200 now, superb 1080p performer, and will run effortlessly on your current supply.

Agree with TerrorFirmer - an R9 270X/R9 280 is serious bang for the buck and should be okay juice-wise with that PSU.

The cooler on that MSI card is very good but I don't think it's worth €30 more.

It's just a better cooler. Quieter and cooler but not €30 better. You could get a 280x for that extra €30.
