Savage calf Bod, serious length and shape to him. What lims did you put on this year?

he is a fine lump of a calf and she had a taller darker red bull calf from ADX last year but EFZ seems to suit this heifer (she is belonged to next door neighbour)

I used EFZ last year on BB and he very butty, OZS far better suitor to her, this year I used ADX, TVR

ADX is a great Bull for size anyway and big square heifers after him

Yeah, it's funny the ways certain bulls work on one type of cow and not so well on others. ADX seems to be the business, if his heifers have some milk he'll have it all. OZS is a fine easy calved bull, nice shape and good temperament, works best on cows with a bit of size to them.
Castleview Gazelle looks like a good bull for you to try. You're a brave man using TVR, no pain no gain I suppose:D.

Adx is a great bull alright. Why did they take EFZ from the ncbc catalogue? Is he. Dead?

I think EFZ broke his leg or something like that, no more straws available off him afaik. OKH and ZAG are nice looking Ampertaine Commander sons like EFZ to replace him hopefully.

Ordered OKH and the blonde SGA from the genre Ireland catalogue. I'll tell you what they're like in 3 years :)

Good luck with them, have you got gene Ireland straws before? Do you get all your calves weighed for free or just the calves off the gene Ireland bulls?

Big rook of a ch x Ba cow and a cf 85 bred bull. Calved herself, definitely the biggest lad yet. I'm a bit worried about some of the cows. Lost one off a springer I bought a few weeks back, too narrow a pelvis and too wide of a limo calf

Cows well fit for him, had another one at 4 this morning, it took 2 runs of the jack and a bit of hardship but pulled another beaut. The Bulls throwing smashing calves that are huge but I can see a couple of caesarians coming and they are something I want to avoid. I'm being very selective with what he goes with this year.

sorry if this sounds negative but what about last month of feeding,ie. some i know restrict or change diet in that period if cow is very good fettle.if on silage change diet to hay to change gut fill and avoid meal feeding. iv tried it few a few times with mixed results(hard work anyway) but generally i find if grass fed, calving not major problem its when on silage and nuts if feed scarce i get calving difficulty or late spring calvers. other wise i restrict intake in last 2 -3 weeks give pre calver bucket and supplement with iodine in water troughs to avoid retained afterbirths.

To me, that calf looks big from breeding only and not from feeding the cow. I always thought that feeding the cow too much, puts condition on the calf rather than growing the size of the calf, if you know what I mean.
When you have Charolais on both the cow and bull side of things, you are going to have a big calf.

Late May bull calf off Doncamillo. Didn't think much of him at birth but he's starting to pile it on now.

Fine animals kovu! Would that heifer be 280-300kg? Will you sell or breed her?

Definitely wouldn't be that yet, she's rather small, might be touching 240/250 after a feed of nuts :P
She's being kept over the winter along with that ch bull in the background, he's only a july calf. Also have three pb heifers to keep so plenty of company! One of those is in the background too.

The A.I. man carries Dovea & Bova so it depends on the cow & what's available; possibly 50/50. We used a lot of WTB in the last few years and SFL along with that for some red blues.
NXB and BVX used to throw great growthy animals too. All of our PB lms are off Bova bulls Navarin & Tarot as well.

So actually summing up we've used a lot of Bova! PIO always brings hairy cattle that heifer is the image of one we had a few years back.

SFL is a super bull, easy calved (has on 1st calving SM/HO) with a great end product. How do you find NXB, similar blood line to Major. VAK is a good bull.
We've a PIO heifer which looks like her too, except the colour

From what I remember NXB was a great bull to breed weans that would grow into super stores. He always crossed very well on SIMx cows as they'd give that little bit of extra height. My favourite ch has to be TZA though, he had everything!

Another little lad, yet to get a heifer off this bull as a comparison.

I got these in gort last week. Curly girl was €1140 and the other girl was €940 by a bull called Ardadoney Captin. Quiet as lambs I can nearly scratch them allreddy. I know most won't agree but they won't be bulled for another 15 months.
