Can't remember but someone around these parts were big into infrared at one stage.

This post intended for them whoever they are/were

Great shot of an already weird looking cat there.
I like infrared but rarely use my modded camera these days.

I was expecting lots of trees but there weren't too many trees, so that's good. Cat and bird are great.

Why the round vignette ? Does that come with having the camera modded ? Is it a sealed filter sort of thing ?

I never get enough of looking at colourised photographs from the past. Got your usual Facebook link to a very polluted page with a selection, and clicked on this lady's website, which is a lot more pleasant : historical pics after, and before colourisation. All time periods, great variety of subjects. She does a great job.

i hate it when people refer to 'historical photos in colour'; once they are colorised, they cease to be historical.

The subject matter is historical regardless, so I don't see the problem. Nobody is trying to pass them as the real thing.

I've just discovered the rangefinder function on my camera... If you'll excuse the pun, things have just become a lot clearer :P

I know you are legally allowed to take photos of people in public.
But at a train/bus station are you allowed to take photos and publish them (say on boards)? Galway train/bus station, outdoors area in specific

    Cheers,
    Pa.

if it's private land - as a bus station would be, the occupier may have a 'no photography' rule. so they may eject you, but cannot do anything about photos already taken.

however, as you have no legal recourse to privacy if photographed on public ground, but while are on private ground may have an expectation that you will not be photographed, this might divert into a discussion about what you should do rather than what you can do.

Just tried taking some pictures at Run in the Dark. I mean, I'd never consider myself a decent photographer by any means, but, despite a couple of hundred shots, I failed miserably to get anything at all decent. Running subjects at night time. Difficult stuff!

I tried to shoot at the marathon - over by Roebuck hill - and I found that almost impossible! No excuses there :o

Part of my problem was the pictures I was trying to take were kind of boring anyway! I didn't take any just at the finish line / when people were finished, so those might have been more interesting. I thought I was onto something with this one, but before I corrected the settings there were loads of people in the way, and it started raining! Maybe next year :P

So, just snobbery, deliberate provocation (aka trolling), or does the guy have a point?

Guardian clickbait. It's a deliberately contentious opinion piece masquerading as objective fact.

Agree and disagree. If the gallery tells a story, or the photos are of a similar scene, such as if all the photo's depict various life styles around the world, I think they work very well. If it's just a pile of random photos, I don't think a gallery is going to work for them personally.

I completely disagree with saying that they should be left to screens. I think photos are lovely when they're printed and hung, it just doesn't have to be in a gallery. But that's just my personal preference.

Maybe he should have had a look at the above paintings and maybe a little rethink before he wrote his piece.
If i was to rewrite his piece i would just substitute the words Photography/Photos for Art/Paintings and the result would be the same

Read that article the other day, absolute waste of time. You could also add that there's no point going to the Taylor Wessing show when you could just look at it online.

    From Humans of New York's facebook post today;
"I teach photography to kids in the Bronx. I try to emphasize the importance of not overthinking your work. If something makes you curious, shoot it. If something makes you feel an emotion, shoot it. I don't ever want them to doubt themselves, so I tell them to be spontaneous and not worry about making mistakes. But truthfully, I've never been able to work that way."

    He gets it.

Irish Examiner has Camera Classics 2014 in the sports section. Some great sporting photos from the year and the photographer taking about the shot.

Looking for some youtube photography lesson videos that are more at the advanced end of the scale, any ideas?

What are you looking for exactly?

I don't have one specific topic in mind. I've worked through all the beginner/introductory stuff. I got my first DSLR a year ago and now shoot consistently on M mode. So I just want to keep on learning now that I think I have all the basics of exposure etc down.

You can see my work here to get an idea of what I shoot https://www.flickr.com/photos/stephendevine/
