On the other hand, if this woman broke up with the suspect on bad terms, and if she was aware he was a suspect in the case at the time (very likely), there's the possibility she's providing false information in order to frame her ex.

You would hope no one would be so heartless and cruel as to give the dead woman's family false expectations like that. But you just don't know.

Hopefully this isn't the case, and she will be able to help the Gardaí find the body.

If its the same main suspect as I'm thinking of, it wouldn't have been the first time thinly veiled threats were made. If it is the same guy, he sent threatening letters to some company, informing them he was a very dangerous man and to ask tullamore gardai about his history.

    Isnt Larry murphy abroad atm?

    Suspect arrested abroad?

I don't think larry murphy was ever a suspect with fiona pender. The guards and her mother think it was someone who she knew very well.

    This isn't Larry Murphy.

This is going to sound so wrong , but I genuinely hope they find Fionas remains and that her poor mother can finally have some peace of mind knowing that she has her back. The not knowing for any of the families of missing people must be horrific.

Hopefully this leads to a conclusion for the family. I was just thinking that it would be far less likely these days for women to go missing without a trace like those poor women in the 90's. I think mobile phones/technology are the main reasons for this. For example there was a woman killed in the midlands recently enough and technology helped find her and her killer in a short enough period. Obviously it's still horrible for the victims families but better than what the families of Fiona Pender and the other missing women.

Looks like the net is finally closing. Hopefully there will be a breakthrough and the family will finally get some closure.

Looking at the case I can't see why it was ever linked to Larry Murphy, sure there was plenty of hysteria around the time of his release but it's obvious that Fiona was harmed by someone who was close to her. The Gardai have always had their suspect, now at last they might be able to build a strong case against them.

Every unsolved missing person/murder case involving a female victim in the 90s somehow gets linked back to poor oul Larry.

the murderer was incredibly close to fiona, everyone in he area knows that..time to allow the guards to search the whole farm!

Not enough substantial evidence I'd assume. That's usually the case.

From the sounds of it he confessed to it via a threat to his current partner?

I wonder if that would be enough to secure a conviction. Especially without a body and post mortem evidence etc.

Her partner at the time isn't a stranger to making threats.

What I don't understand is if the burial place was pointed out to her, why didn't she go to the gardai then? Instead of moving to another country with him, and coming forward after he threatened her, about leaving her in the ground like he did with fiona. She obviously knew what he did beforehand.

I also find it so hard to believe someone could conceal the murder so well, literally had her disappear without a trace, only to bring it up and talk to his current partner about how he'd killed a woman and her baby, and not just any woman and her baby. Surely that'd leave any woman running for the hills, it's hardly pillow talk.

Some people can be infatuated by criminals, no matters what they did, just look at the admount of mostly women who marry and are besotted by infamous murderers.

Original article says they searched a bog. I don't understand why anyone would bury a body in a bog. Those bog bodies they found in leitrim had been in the ground for over 2000 years and they still had hair and teeth ffs. The mild acidity of the bogs preserves bodies. I guess most criminals aren't the smartest.

They would bury body's in bogs as most bogs are desolate places with lots of ditches/trenches and soft ground, also trying to find an unfortunate victim in a bog is like looking for a needle in a haystack and unless you had a precise location nearly impossible to find. there are quite a few bodies here and the UK still missing, the most infamous being the Myra hindly/Ian Brady moors murder victims .
