bit of an odd question but.. (oak tree trunk)

How likely would it be to be able to acquire a rather large oak tree trunk in the Dublin/Leinster area.

Just been thinking of building a workshop with the centre piece being a hallowed out oak trunk used as a surround and chimney for a stove/furnace. I'd line the inside with firebrick to avoid burning the tree.

How long a piece would you be looking for? Could perhaps have a piece of Beech that would suit...... dozed up the middle, but you would be cutting all that away anyway.

I wouldn't want to collect it anytime soon, i'd probably be looking around spring. Would you mind uploading a picture of it?

Aesthically I'd be looking to get some of roots too, so that it looks as though it's still growing out of the ground.

Also, hypothetically, how much would you be selling on the fallen oak for? I'd assume you'd sell it because oak wood is valuable.

Doin some napkin math, that oak is about 12 tons

or 25,000 pounds (11,500kg).

My bad, at 45 pounds per cubic foot, it's volume is roughly 141 cubic foot, so 6361 pounds for the tree. So about 3.2 tons. Which is much more reasonable.
I initially did a radius of 3 foot, not 1.5

Its an old corn mill,I remember my grandfather grinding barley for local farmers.It was used foe generating electricity and there was a slaughterhouse there aswell.wrecked now.
The tree is available if anyone wants it.I dont wnt to use it for firewood.

I would take it, but i've no means to move it at the moment. What county are you in? I'd definetly take it next spring when I have time and money to rent a truck.

I'm not entirely sure yet, i'd want to make a chinemy out of the thing, but either way, being 20ft, it'd have to be cut.
