    hi there

I'm still on the look out for a starter car.

Are those 1.4 Skoda Octavia any good. Compared to a focus or Corolla ?

They seems to sell cheaper when compared. Any reason for this ?

What year are we talking here? Starter car, so I assume around the 00-03 or so range?

Older 1.4's are not good at all. That engine sucks in the Golf, I can only imagine what it's like in the Octavia.

Quite a few could be ex-taxi's too.

Corolla and Focus are far superior. In that order.

1.4 litre engine only became available in the Octavia in 2001 with the facelifted model. 1.4 litre is the same unit found in the MkIV Golf. Not a great engine, underpowered and can end up using more oil than petrol.

I noticed an 03 for just under 3000 and a 05 for under 4000 (100,000 on the clock).

Didn't have time to take them for a spin yet.
