Doesn't the parching of the chillis make them spicier, or something?
    Certainly does!

After planting a load of seeds in April/May, we've finally got ourselves a red chilli!
    Two tips:
    1. Don't water too much and add a drop or two of tomato feed to each watering.
    2. When the plant starts to flower, you have to tickle the underside of the flower with a small paint brush to pollinate it.

If you don't do the above, you'll end up with dead flowers on leafless sticks. (As I had a month or so ago).

That's fantastic and I love the way it's hanging on its own in plane view. I can just imagine all the creepy crawlies having their weekly meeting in the garden about which house to conquer next and saying...nah, we're not going in THERE :pac:

    Greenfly just love chilli plants!
I stopped growing them because of the little feckers!

Me too - I used to grow them from seed and give plants to friends and family until one year they were covered in little mites. Turned out they were plant lice :(

Do you grow rhubarb? You can make a liquid from the leaves that kills all those little beasties!

Fingers crossed, we've dodged them this year. Having said that, before I started feeding it a month or so ago, it was a decrepit looking bundle of sticks with a couple of leaves. Greenfly probably turned their noses up at it!

Yeah, but that requires diligence and regular spraying. Not my forte.

Remember last week, when we were talking about the merits of the maris piper?

Tesco are doing 1kg bags of apparently bog standard "white potatoes" for 49c this week. Most are bags of cultra, but there are some batches of maris pipers in the mix - just check the lower right corner of the bag to see the variety, as in the attached photo. :)

    Ooh! Maris piper chips!!

Morning kids :) hope everyone is having a super pleasant week. I'm back from holidays and have Bratwurst coming out of my pores. I am the odd smell of pork in Dublin if you are wondering. If anyone is knocking around Berlin in the near future I couldn't recommend Yumcha Heroes enough - dumplings!! Also, could you ask the bar men why they kept sticking cucumber in my Moscow Mule? It was surprisingly pleasant but confusing

I've tried so hard to like maris piper potatoes but I've hated everything I've made with them.

I usually lurk here but I had to post because Subway have added chorizo to their menu and it instantly reminded me of this thread.

Although I had the steak & chorizo melt sub and couldn't really taste the chorizo at all, maybe I chose toppings that overpowered it.

Didn't have the 1kg bags of MP's in my local Tesco, just had the 2kg bags and they were smaller/"baby" potatoes. Still big enough to make small roasters though! :)

Nope, you're right. I had one yesterday for lunch and couldn't taste the chorizo at all, and I even went with plain mayo, normally go with southwest sauce but didn't want it to be too spicy, it wasn't spicy at all! :(

Morning/Afternoon. Brunch soon. Or, breakfast I got up too late to call it 'breakfast' with a straight face soon. I do love Sunday, much potential for tasty things to eat ahoy!

I bought a red chilli plant
We got just one lovely chilli. It has now got beautiful flowers and is healthy. I will add tomato feed and brush the flowers and see what happens. I was pinching the flowers as i read that somewhere but it did not work.!! Thanks for the advice Op.

Made a huge batch of Chilli yesterday and the same of Stew today, all for the freezer. It takes a bit of time doing it but it's great ending up with about 40 dinners tucked away in the freezer for those evenings when you don't want to cook.

The OH gave me a good tip when filling the Ziplock bags. It's to fold the bags over, like a sock, so it stops the sauce getting all over the zipper part or the outside of the bag, something that always does my head in.
Why she only decided to tell me now I'll never know!:confused::)

Managed to set off the smoke alarm due to inattentiveness with the grill...

Ha. It does seem ridiculously obvious now, and I'm sure everybody does it that way, but it was a revelation to me. :o:D

Sorry, it's just that this default attitude of women are stupid/great or men are stupud/great that so many people, both male and female fall into, even in a jocular fashion, is one of the many buttons that sets me off.
It must be a man thing ;)

Must look into some sort of short course soon, maybe baking. Not that I do much.

I think I posted in here before I moved to London a few months ago to work as a demi-pastry chef in one of a rather well-known chefs restaurants. Well today, our autumn/winter menu went live which will lead us right up to our festive menus. I'm delighted to say that some dishes that I played quite a part in the development of went live today; including quite possibly one of my favourite dishes I've ever served.

    Chocolate, chestnut and pear

    10670202_10202545600351069_5818040690458024916_n.jpg?oh=dfbcd2fbd382194a92eb40c746e0ae9a&oe=54CD4819

Chestnut mousse on a feuillitine base, with chocolate cremeux, compressed pear and pear sorbet. To say I'm delighted with this dishes final form would be an understatement.

Oh I could just skydive into that plate and make an exhibition of myself! It looks sublime, how elegant and totally delicious looking too. Are you at liberty to say who you're working with? Congratulations on some amazing skills!
