My screen grab has different departmental text at bottom too, maybe you have an older link to site?

    I've worked it out.

You've done a Motor Tax Rates search, I've done a Vehicle Transaction Enquiry.

Hi does anyone remember any dealers in the Sutton Howth area that would have gone out of business in the 80's/90's?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 661 ✭✭✭exador

Teelings garage were just before Howth on the left hand side..I know they had a Citroen dealership later where Beshoff is now..back then they had petrol pumps as well in the site just past where BESHOFF is now.

Then further up on the right hand side was Charlie Youngs Garage .. same Family as Youngs Kilkenny..K& H at Sutton Cross but I think they are still there ? Charlie Young had PETROL station as well..TEXACO I think ?

:Was there something on the left hand side on the way into the village just before the train station.
Dooh! Just read exador's post properly....

Anyone remember the first name of the owner of Teelings? and is there any connection between that one and the current citroen dealers (Teeling Motors) in Howth?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 661 ✭✭✭exador

Citroen dealer is no longer there...Beshoffs now.

As far as I remember the Citroen dealer was one of a few brothers that had the petrol station next door...Think it was their Fathers Business before that.

Citroen dealer was Barry Teeling, dont know the father's name.

Think the original Teeling was a John Teeling. The petrol station was in what is now the Garden Centre. Tom Walsh in Baldoyle got the Citreon dealership the. Rumour had it the garage/petrol station site sold for about €12 million at the time.

There used to be a shell station on Green field Road in Sutton and I think near the end of its life it had a 2nd hand car dealer (may have been micahel grant) but that was going in the early 2000s. Now two houses and a solicitors office

Not an old long forgotten dealer, but I thought I'd post this anyway:

A nice story but at an end sadly.

^ a nice article that Sean. A great bit of history, charting the advances in the movement of people by mechanical means. I wish them well, and hope they benefit greatly from the (I'm guessing) sale of the memorabilia. A nice touch to have the former employees gather.

If you're on Facebook you'll enjoy our page called 'The Golden Age of Irish Garages and Petrol Stations'. Lots of old pics to have a look at and lots of info from people who've worked in the trade down the years.
