Now that water charges are becoming a reality, I would be interested in finding out how people think water should be funded. I think a lot of the debate has got lost with some protesters focusing on the Freeman "No Contract" stuff and other distractions. But what about the core question - Should water be provided for free to everyone? We supposedly provide education and health to everyone. Should this extend to water?

I wanted to add a poll, but couldn't see the option. If someone could assist me with that, I'd appreciate it.

All monopoly powers need to rest with the state (which means paid for by general taxation really) so either that or introduce some form of genuine competition.

    Private monopolies just get abused.

Water that comes through your taps was never free you just paid in a differant way.

The network needs investment and general taxation wont cover it at current rate so only other way is to increase tax some place else. Plus Irish peoples attitude to water is a joke oh its cold outside I'll leave the tap running all night to stop it freezing etc...

Many here wont agree with me and will have a go at what I wrote but I agree with introducing water bills once prices are fair and free allowances are provided for basic needs.

    Water is free.
