    Lads,

Auld lad has a few drill of spud stalks to kill off, golden wonders. I know Reglone is normally sprayed on them to kill off the stalks but that can only be got for a few HA, not in 1/10 of an acre. Is there any other way of doing this without compromising the tubers? e.g cutting them off.

P.S cannot get off neighbor before anyone suggests it.

Some people use round up, but you can't keep seed of them afterwords.

roundup is systemic, which means the chemical will end up in the tuber  wouldnt fancy eating them spuds would you

We don't use it, I dont even know if it's legal to or not like. I just know a man did over the road a few years ago then sold seed to another grower, they still don't talk. Hahaha

Ya, just top them. Had to do it last year for Roosters. Worked a charm! :)

Just run the topper over them. dont use roundup as the previos posters said this will work its way down the tubers into the potatoes. I wouldnt fancy eating them after that.

surly the stalks are weak now ? If youve only one tenth of an acre a few lads with clippers would do it as quickly if you can't get a topper.

It's no hassle to do it, just want to make sure it wont harm the tuber. Stalks are very strong. Cheers.

I use a strimmer & than spray with dragoon gold, it dries the stalk & kills the weeds.

Would the crows not go to town on them after topping them? Have spuds here, but never top them . Usually have to put a scarecrow in them, and maybe a banger for good measure. Not many sown around here now, nor much barley either, so crows attack the odd bit they can find in style.
