A lot of it is superficial in fairness, anybody with basic DIY ability could fix it up rightly.
Probably high spirits rather than anything malicious.

Yeah this kind of thing happens all the time - it's not acceptable by any standard but it's hardly shocking. We hear stories about students causing havoc in pubs, wrecking flats, bad behaviour in Hostels in Australia etc etc. I don't think it's fair to demonise this group above any others.

Feel sorry for the Landlady - but she sounds a bit naive. Also I think it's a bit unfair on the guy whose arrest envelope is being publicised on line - I know he was stupid to leave it there. Plenty of very nice people have been arrested for being drunk and disorderly - it's hardly axe murder.

I am not trying to defend their disgraceful behaviour - just a bit of perspective is needed.

All of their facebook and linkedin profiles are dropping like flies. Just goes to show the power of social media these days and the inability to get away with anything these days.

What kind of Irish terrorists were they, real IRA or some new group? ;)

It's confusing, because the report clearly states that house is owned by a group committed to the peace process.

    Sooner rather than later.

Self entitled people who think "what goes on tour, stays on tour"

Wouldn't be let of of the county, let alone the country if they were my kids.

So we should just ignore their behaviour?

To be fair the older generations got away with it. It's disgusting however to treat another country like that because you feel you can get away with it.

I was responding to someone who said he was "100% sure" it was Culchies. Any reason that you didn't notice that?

I commented on it earlier saying that of course Dublin doesn't have scumbags .

They should have to pay for the damage and I think it was disgraceful behaviour. I just don't like the witchhunt of publicity.

Is it me or does anyone think the house doesn't look all that bad? A few broken windows and a bit of replastering, a couple of new beds and some carpentry. Right enough there's a few quids worth of carpentry but it looks like most of it can be repaired rather than replaced.

Being honest, in my younger days I may or may not have left places far worse than that.

And yes, if they can catch up with the lease holders they should be made to pay.

Why would you leave used condoms on the floor too? Even if you don't wreck the house, that's just skank.

I lived in squats in London during the 90's that were in better condition than the wrecked abode these miscreants have left behind

    Shame on them

It's terrible on the people who are thinking of emigrating to have stories like this.

I know it's off topic and nothing to do with this particular situation, but there's a BBC report about Irish emigration here, which some might find interesting, especially the section entitled "Crisis Shadow".

The Facebook page that photo came from has been taken down... I'd say there are a few shít-stained panties and boxers around Ireland at the moment.

Without them being outed theres no chance of her seeing any money.

Probably isn't either way but at least now they've been outed.

Wow, what a bunch of a-holes.

Should be prosecuted. an American court would sort them out pretty damn fast.

Just a quick reminder of this story - there are consequences to all this kind of over the top publicity. A young Irishman in Australia who committed suicide earlier this year.
The young man who declared earlier this week that a Melbourne flood damage court case had ruined his life has died.

    The 29-year-old died yesterday.

Consular assistance is being provided to his family.

Mr Gaffney, who was originally from Lanesborough in Co Longford, pleaded guilty to criminal damage and was handed a $10,000 fine over an incident in April last year when he set off a fire hydrant in a hotel.

The flooding caused an estimated $500,000 worth of damage and forced the evacuation of the hotel.

Chief Judge Michael Rozenes said it was hard to see where the evil lay in Mr Gaffney’s conduct.

Judge Rozenes said Gaffney had been heavily intoxicated, but there was no malicious intent to cause damage to the hotel, and it was just a stupid act that he would never have contemplated if he was sober.

Gaffney, the youngest of six children, said he felt ashamed by the incident.

“This entire thing has ruined my life completely,” Gaffney said. “I’ve spent 10 years in Australia trying to better myself and in the space of one night everything can be taken away from you.

“People who go out for the night and drink too much can ruin themselves completely.”

Not sure any criminal proceedings could be, but I would think civil proceedings could.

    Died why?

If it was suicide then obviously its related, if he died of something else then its very unfortunate but has no bearing on the story.

The American authorities should ask Ireland to extradite Cormac and his buddies. A few months butthole exercise in Folsom would sort them out.
