Great stuff! Ate about a kilo of them last week so that should have sorted it:D

You've probably wiped out the gout for the neighbourhood there! :pac:

It definitely works though, I know someone who self-medicated that way when the doctors cure was doing nothing for them. Gone in a couple of days.

    SNAP!

Was out playing golf last Friday evening and as I was playing badly I started walking along a ditch looking for the last 2 ball I hit. Suddenly I noticed a few bunches of ripe blackberries. "Busters" they were too! Decided there and then to put the clubs in the boot and return with a Bag For Life I had in the boot. Ended up making 6 jars of jam! A little on the runny side, but I like this as it soaks into the bread ;):)

    Loire.

Would much prefer slightly runny than over set.

Whilst I'm sitting here in a food coma, here's how the last day went. Went to the butcher to get minced pork. The butcher asked what I was making, told him about the pork and prawn burgers. Asked me to drop down a sample and proceeds to give me 1.5kg of pork, and only charged me a fiver. Deadly. Dropped him down 3 this morning, will find out at the weekend what he thought. I thought they were nice, but I was hoping they would be more fishy. Will maybe add salmon to the mix next time. I wonder how pork, prawns and salmon would go? 12 made, only 2 left. My dad called in and had 2 aswell.

Pulled pork was fab. 2 cups of coke, no vinegar, 12 hours cooking. For the sauce, I added 2 spoons of garlic and ginger paste, 1 spoon of chipotle chilli and smoked paprika paste, 1 spoon og ground coriander and a bottle of tesco brand BBQ sauce. Wowzers. And there's enough to do till Saturday at lunch. Or if someone calls around, sure you can join me in the silence.

Didn't do the chicken thighs, they're still marinating till tomorrow.

Anyone know can you get good pancetta in Cork?

I'd imagine the Market would be the first place to look?

I've been determined to crack the perfect carbonara since seeing this Rick Stein video:

I got minced pork in dunnes a few weeks ago, I think it was 10% added water, or "basted" as the marketing spoofers call it.

Made nice burgers with it, 50/50 pork/beef mince

Morning, morning. Anyone else so tired that they could cheerfully slither off their chair into a big fat puddle on the ground? Also, has anyone been to Berlin recently and eaten anything nice? I'm off that way on Monday the week after next and currently obsessively planning my way around the city, like I'm a pastry eating Pacman being chased by the ghost of worrying about missing nice food, using Instagram as a guide. I love people who post photos of restaurant & café & imbiss & train station food on Instagram.

I've heard good things from friends about Street Food Thursday in Markthalle Neun, they have lots of food trucks there every Thursday. The Käsespätzle have been recommended :)
There is also a Thai food market every weekend in Preußenpark which seems to be great.

    Currently swimming in coffee :D

Nocti Vagus is great for the experience and the food was excellent when I was there. No photos of the food though. For obvious reasons!

There's one of those catering drums of Nescafe downstairs. I'm off to attach it to my face like a nosebag.

Have you checked out http://www.foodspotting.com? Its basically that - people post photos of food and where they had it :)

(It's not quite met it's full potential, but worth checking out nonetheless!)

Thanking you! This looks like it could be extremely useful in my quest to leave no food uneaten!

What a great site. I need to know more about those rice balls in Marlay Park.

I got about a pound of locally grown damsons yesterday which I am currently planning on turning into a sauce to serve with pan-fried duck breasts. Anyone got any other nice things to do with damsons? I doubt they'll be around for long so I want to make the most them while I can still get some :)

Why thank you Loire :) I will!

Also think I might make pizza this weekend, have some pizza flour and yeast burning a hole in my pocket (press) but I've been told that my housemates are on a no starchy carb buzz this weekend so it'll be all for me. Danger. (Might leave it till Sunday to tell them there's wheat in beer :) )

Just don't do what they did and wander into the Celt next door, drink the place dry, make 4 new tourist best buddies and spend Saturday morning curled up in a ball on the couch with a basin near your head and me laughing at you :)

I'm seeing Adobo pork with morteau sausage in my future! and maybe a margarita (celebration lunch, not my typical Friday) depending on how much I have to do this afternoon
