No interest Sam whatsoever. Hate it actually. Bike maybe at a push!

Maybe some kind of weight training type thing? I find swimming a lot like running as it clears the mind! I perfer running now though and seldom swim. Will you go back to marathon training at some stage as that was your passion?

Yeah some gym stuff might be good. Hate the idea of gyms though... Actually maybe bike would be best if I had somewhere to store one without it being stolen or battered:rolleyes:

Yes there will be marathons in my future:) many I hope!

    Saturday 6 September
    35 mins

Great to be back running! Couldn't have got a better morning for my first one back!
Did a bit of a foam roll of all the important bits and then an AIS session and then the Lunge Matrix routine before this run. Really enjoyed it. I've never done lunges before. Was surprised I was sweating a bit by the end of it! Methinks I've lost some fitness!
Run started out great. I thought my legs would be like a new born foal's after 12 days of no running but no they felt sprightly and light and wonderful!
Ignored the watch and just started out slowly but am allowed to up the effort a bit if feeling good which I did. I found I was running tall and with light quick feet without even making a concerted effort.
Mile 1: 10:13 (thought this would be a lot slower as it felt like crawling)
    Mile 2: 9:41
    Mile 3: 9:30
    Last bit:9:08 pace
I did feel a bit sick when I stopped for some reason. Could be something to do with the 7 bottles of Pinot Grigio consumed over the last 7 days:eek: It was very warm too and I was overdressed and didn't wear shorts as I haven't shaved my legs in 2 weeks and it wouldn't be fair to subject the world to that sight!
I'll be knocking the alcohol on the head again for a while...
Felt grand after a few mins.
    Great to be back:D

    Sunday 7 September
    35 mins

I know it's only a paltry little 35 min run but it made me very happy so gonna log it anyway :)
Had a dinner party last night. The rum came out about midnight. Luckily I didn't succumb but did have a few glass of wine too many all the same. A mixture of grapes which is never a great idea! One more alcohol fuelled night tomorrow night and then that's it for a while. Have to meet some yanks tomorrow evening who are claiming to be long lost cousins. We'll see! If they're stunningly beautiful, extremely talented with exceptional personalities, I might just believe they could be related ;)

Glutes felt extremely sore this morning! And inner thighs. Guess it must be the lunges as I really don't think it was the running. Everything felt good and loose after the following warmup:
Foam roll, AIS and Lunge Matrix routine. Really enjoying the latter and I look forward to seeing the strengthening benefits to my legs and lower body in general in the following months.

Body felt very strong and tall today. Lovely little run in the sun.
    9.48
    9.27
    9.04
    8.39 pace

Picked it up as I went along as I felt good and just went with the flow. Upped the effort a good few notches for the last 3 mins and cooled down with a 7 minute brisk walk.

    Monday 8 September
    35 mins

Foam roll, AIS, Lunge Matrix pre run.
Was a bit wrecked this morning with sore glutes and buttocks and thighs but everything eased and loosened out and I felt good after the first few mins. Gorgeous morning for running!
Went from 10ish pace to 8:50ish very gradually.
Did the Myrtl routine after the run. It'll take a bit of getting used to as the video I'm following going too quickly and I'm trying to hit pause and catch up and banging my leg off the wall by accident:o I like it though and it's spicing things up nicely for me for my comeback week when I'm not allowed to do too much running.

    Tuesday 9 September
    35 mins

Well the yanks were the real deal alright. Judging by their drinking prowess alone, I can safely say they're Irish and we are proud to call them members of our family:)
The night ended up with me the life and soul of the party dragging everyone off to Peter's Pub (possibly the smallest pub in the universe!) and then home to try and convince me da to crack open the bottle of Jameson 12 year old special reserve he got as a present. THANK THE GODS he denied me!

A poor night's sleep ensued and I felt a bit ropey at the start of this run but eased nicely into it and picked it up to a very enjoyable 8:30ish pace towards the end. Really lovin' these mini progression runs.
Foam roll, AIS and lunges pre run. Legs very achey from the lunging I've been doing daily since I got back into it on Saturday but this morning was the first morning there's a significant improvement and I wasn't half as sore.

    Wednesday 10 September
    35 mins

Terrible sleep last night. Awful awful awful :(
Was going to take a complete rest day but I knew a run would put me in better form. And guess what? .... :)
Foam roll, AIS and Lunge Matrix pre run.
Never really got going at a faster pace until right near the end with a few mins around half marathon effort.
Home then to do the Myrtl routine. I noticed my neck very sore since the first time I did this on Monday. I'm straining my neck a lot in the different positions (use to have this problem when doing planks) so I need to learn to relax more but it doesn't help that I don't know the routine off by heart so am straining my neck to see the tv whilst doing it.
Soon it'll be second nature just like AIS is to me now I hope.

    Thursday 11 September
    35 mins

Abysmal sleep again last night and the fatigue really showed on this run.
Like yesterday, it took a while to get into it but once I did I really enjoyed it and upped to 10k effort for the last 3 mins. Would have loved to continue on with the evening that was in it but 35mins is my fate for the moment.
Shorter AIS session and full lunge routine before hand. Only one tiny little sore spot from doing it on the right quad but besides that it's not hurting me anymore!
I'm looking forward to my runs getting longer soon.
    Are you listening Stazza?

    Friday 12 September 2014
    35 mins

What an amazing evening in the Phoenix Park. Hadn't been there in a few weeks. Boy do I love that place. Just stunning in the lazy hazy autumn sunshine.
Did the lunge routine and AIS in my sister's place and her 3 year old had to copy everything I did. Not a bad little lunger and good attempt with the ais too but I'll need to get her a shorter rope:D

Thoroughly enjoyed the little run and legs feeling good and strong and not a niggle to be felt anywhere. Started out easy 10ish pace and gradually built it up with last 3 mins at 10k effort. Judged the timing badly so when my 35 mins was up I was about a mile from the car. Being the anal ocd model student that I am I didn't continue to run over the 35 mins but walked briskly back to the car.
Then on the walk back I got the most horrific stomach lady pains that had me almost bent over in agony. A dopey night on the couch with some heavy painkillers is on the cards I'm afraid :(

So that's 7 days of running since I started back last Saturday. Just over 3.5 miles a day. Lunge routine done every day and 3 x myrtle routines.
Doubles being reintroduced from tomorrow wahay:D and a few more interesting things will follow :)
    I love running!

    Saturday 13 September
    35 mins

Ais, Lunge Matrix and run. A bit doped up on painkillers but it made for an extra pleasant run :) However, a few hours after it I could remember very little about it I was so out of it! But apparently I worked my way from 10 pace to about 8:30.
Myrtl when home. Starting to love the myrtl!

    Sunday 14 September
    am: 35 min am

AIS and Lunge Matrix (first time doing this routine without looking at video and it worked out fine. I think I've finally got it!)
    9:34
    9:14
    8:34 pace

    pm: 35 min with 6 x 25 sec strides
    AIS and Lunge Matrix.
Loved getting out again today. I relish each run I do and get excited with the anticipation of heading out each time. Today I got to experience the excitement twice:D
Went to St. Anne's for this. 10 mins easy and then threw the strides into the second mile. It's ages since I've done anything that fast and even though it was only 25 sec strides I did feel a bit wrecked on the 3rd mile. Kept good posture and minimal ground contact with feet popping off the ground whilst staying relaxed. Thoroughly enjoyable! I just took the recoveries my body dictated which were all about 2 mins I'd say.
    Avg pace 9:42
    Daily total 7+ miles
Weekly total: 30+ miles not too bad for the first week back and main thing is the body feels good and strong and ready to eagerly take on what's presented to it:)

A definite change in climate this evening. This runner for one is relishing the Winter of Content ahead :)
A little bit of doms in me behind today for some reason. Must be da myrtl.

    Tuesday 16 September
    35 mins

AIS and Lunge Matrix pre run
Felt very tired heading out and pondered for whether to do this or take a complete rest day. I haven't taken one since I've returned to running and that's 11 days now. I had the runners on and was out the door before I had made my mind up....:pac:
The tiredness didn't really leave me so I kept it easy enough as I didn't have the vim or vigour to pump it up too much so did a very slight progression in effort but it was slow. Sleep hasn't been great the last few nights ...
Worked my way from 10:20 to 9:06. I don't concern myself with the watch for these runs at all, I just start out very comfortable and pick it up a a little as I go along depending on how I'm feeling.
2 runs tomorrow and a longer run maybe Thursday:)

Do you start with the lunges of the AIS?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,420 ✭✭✭Ososlo

Do you start with the lunges of the AIS?

I always do the AIS first barry. Loosens everything out nicely and makes me nice and supple for the lunges.
How are you enjoying your break? Hope you're dealing with it better than I did with mine:o

    Edit: Too slow.

Break is grand tbh. The weekend will be the tester.
I'm using the time to make all the bits and bobs second nature( lunges, stretching and some strength work). Also trying to change the sleep pattern a bit, bed earlier and up earlier. Want to try and get some early morning runs in on those wonderful double days I have coming up...

What's this about stretching and strengthening on your break:confused:
I wasn't allowed do ANYTHING on my break except drink fine wines and spoil myself with sumptuous foods

Enjoy the exercises! Before you know it you'll be able to stand on one foot, with your eyes closed whilst brushing your teeth;) A very useful skill to have:D

Go on, Bazza, try it: how long can you stand on your left foot with your eyes closed pretending to brush your teeth? Don't do it near anything valuable.

    Wednesday 17 September
    am:35 mins

Ais and Lunge Matrix pre run
Went to Whitehall park for this and it was really good for the head to run a different route that I haven't run in months. Need to mix things up a bit more but sometimes it seems silly driving somewhere to go for a little 35 min run.
Worked from 9:49 -8:51 pace for the first 30 mins and did a 5 min cool down jog.

    pm: 35 mins w/6x 25 sec strides
Was silly and drove to the Phoenix Park for a 35 min run:pac: Really didn't feel like the local park again so treated myself to a second outing today. A little bit sick of seeing the same dogs and the same owners again and again and again in the same places!
AIS and Lunge Matrix pre run
Run was fun with the few strides throw in. Some very friendly older runners in the park all with big happy grins this evening. It's like we all share this little secret to the key to happiness. Nice to see some different faces!
    9:59
    9:28 - including strides
    9:48
    9: 50
Myrtl when home. Really getting in on it now and no sore spots at all today. Legs and body in general feels better than ever.
Might take a day off tomorrow if sleep doesn't improve tonight. Don't think it makes any difference to be honest but might just try it to see if it helps... but it won't...:)

How come no one ever "does" strides, they just casually "throw them in", like it was the easiest thing in the world? :)

ha ha good point. I've seen it said a lot too.
I guess it's 'cause they're not really work and are just a bit of fun really. They're too short lived to cause any problems and are quite enjoyable! Now if you had to do 30 of them it might be a bit different!

A nice alternative to the Demesne is Hampstead Park beside DCU.
It's deceptively large and a lap is probably similar, if not longer than the demesne.

our coach gives out to us for not focusing during strides.
He'll tell us twice a week, every week, how to do them properly and then give out to us afterwards 'cos we didn't do them properly. Without fail!!
