I need to buy a couple 1000 items from a Chinese Website, I don't want to go ahead and order such a large number without references. From online reviews, i've seen sites like 'DHGate' and 'Alibaba' have very mixed reviews (mostly negative)

Does anyone have any experience with these websites?

I've used both sites you mention, but I wouldn't jump in with a large order for 1000 items without some samples or smaller amounts first.

There's good and bad traders on both sites, but check out feedback and send a few messages to those that interest you before committing, just to see what the communication is like with them.

Both sites operate a system where you pay them, and they release payment to the vendor once you've received the goods and are satisfied.

You'll always find lots of negative reviews online, as people don't generally bother posting about a company if the transaction went ok, just to vent when things go wrong.

It can depend on the item. I would sooner risk getting 1000 silicone phone covers than 1000 64gb microsd cards.

What is the item? some of the more trustworthy chinese big sites do bulk buying, like dealextreme, they have links from their site to a bulk buying site called volumerate.

I would much rather deal with them than a risky unknown, I would consider the extra cost to be sort of like insurance.
