Anyone who needs a phase tester to wire a plug is doing something fundamentally wrong.
Old habits I guess, I wouldn't wire a plug without one. Or a lighter.

Especially since sometimes having to use strip connectors thanks to the aforementioned EU.

Plain white porcelain crockery, including teapot and butter dish.
100% cotton bedding with a thread count of 200 psi or above.
Two or three main courses you can cook perfectly.
    A spotless loo.
    A bedside lamp.
    Elegant shoes.
    Leather gloves.
A good fountain pen and wallet/purse.
An education (doesn't have to be formal).
Manners, and a willingness to use them.

A torch, spare fuses for plugs, spare lightbulbs, set of screwdrivers, travel adaptors, a nice suitcase, a good bag or shoulder bag large enough to carry a laptop or tablet, a tailored suit for the gents and a formal dress for women.

I've got some of those things except spare fuses, fountain pen, leather gloves, and travel adaptor.

I really want a pretty cake/cupcake stand. It won't let me post an image.

I've never even made cupcakes but I want one! :)

I have 7 or 8 cake/cup cake stands. Trust me, it's a road you should think twice before going down.

I want a Bone China tea set, so I can go Mrs Bucket Level 1 when I have callers. :)

I'd add decent cookware to the list but I only use about three things repeatedly. A big pot, a small pot, and a casserole dish.

    Spare lightbulbs
Spare batteries for the smoke alarm
Spare batteries for pretty much anything
    Lots of spare bed clothes
Good quality iron / ironing board
    Stuff made from 'pyrex'
    Ramekins
'Good' glasses that only get used on Christmas Day
    Contents insurance
A gadget for opening the door on the gas / electricity meters
    A basic tool kit

I can assure you I didn't give 2 hoots about any of the above when I was 20. And now at the ripe old age of 32 I posses and know how to use, them all!!

I'll have to learn to drive first! I know some people think it's ridiculous that an adult never learnt to drive, but so far I've just never had to and I also couldn't afford to run a car. I will learn them some day though I'd say. Would be handy for when doing a big shopping.

All of the above, except a bedside lamp!

I'm going to add a duvet and pillows filled with natural materials - mulberry silk, down, or if money is a real problem, feathers. No comparison to the polyester stuff.

I've started collecting Wedgewood cutlery place settings and crystal stemware.

It's kind of sad how happy it makes me :(

Hey I think we learnt (on paper) how to wire plugs in Home Ec in my all girl school. :P

That being said, just realised I've never actually had to wire a plug for anything ever, is that weird? I don't think I'd remember to do it though.

    .

My mother taught me to wire a plug , well kinda of Her exact instructions. Stop effing about open an already wired one and copy it

Back when black was black Ted was red and brown was brown

Aw it's not sad at all. I don't own any myself, but I have slept on a feather pillow before and I'd say it would be worth buying one. :)

The only "ornaments" I currently have are two Coke bottles with our names in the fireplace. The day I get a china figurine or clock or something I'll consider myself grown up.

Do you keep it with your knitting stuff?

Nope in a special cupboard with wine glasses etc. I don't even like wine!!!

Sheds/Attics/Garages that are full of stuff that is stored, but cannot be thrown away even though it will never be used.

You will actually need one percent of it. You won't know which one percent until five seconds after it disappears into the back of the rubbish lorry.

A wooden spoon that's not used for cooking, just for threatening.

    Usually in a special drawer.

Every time I see a phase tester I lob it in the bin, dangerous things. What's the lighter for? Only thing I can think of is for stripping back the cable to get at the copper, surely a knife would be better?

It was used for more than threatening in my house when I was younger!!

In my mid twenties now so not so much anymore...

I'll add a good waterproof raincoat or jacket.

I have lots of coats and jackets of various styles, but only recently got one that was actually waterproof.

Need to get some waterproof shoes next!

    Kettle descaler.
    Potted plants (alive ones)
    Fire blanket (unused)
A 'handy wee knife' that gets used for everything.

I've no kettle descaler or potted plants, although I do want to buy some of those herb potted things.

I have a special knife for chopping my fruit and veg and won't use any other.
I also have a particular spoon that I like to eat yogurt with, and a particular bowl that I eat stew from, and a smaller oddly shaped bowl that I reserve for noodles.

Not sure if this grown up or just weird?

    High five :D
I have a 'cornflakes bowl' and a 'porridge bowl' and a 'pasta dinner plate'. Different mugs for when I'm sad and happy, and don't even get me started on cutlery...
