    How do you calculate the watts/m^2?

    Divide the number of watts for a given area by the m^2 for that area.

    Thanks for your reply, I didn't realise it was that simple. Some searches showed intricate calculations in relation to height of lighting, shadowing etc. but by this I take it calculating the total wattage of any device in a given area divided by the m^2 is the answer?

    Can you tell us what you need the calculation for ? Are you trying to determine the watts per Sq m needed to ligtht a room to a certain level ? In this case you need to take in the height of the light if the surface and so on.

    correct for example in an office space using fluorescent fittings you'd expect to have about 12 watts per meter squared.

    This is not a reflection of the efficiency of the installation, not does volume enter into it. other calculations take care of that
