No bother you're allowed one slip :). Didn't think Ballyea were desering of being such warm favourites but a little surprised it wasn't closer, sounds like a pretty dissapointing performance.

yeah they were over hyped , from what i saw of them over the summer they never really looked liked real contenders, today they forged plenty of chances and a large number of goal chances and couldnt convert, they were all over the place in the first half, but through out the game there seemed to be a pateren where ballyea went close with a goal chance or had a player disposesed in a scoreable position it was nearly always punished immediately down the other end of the field

i wouldnt write off clarecastle , but if they gave up the same level of scoring chances against the likes of cratloe or clonlara they would be punished , and the fact they had trouble staying close with newmarket a few weeks ago , i would be willing to put a line through there name should they draw crusheen giving the nature of there win yesterday but at this stage it is very hard to call

John Galvin joining the cratloe footballers must make them odds on to retain the title, he is a massive addition

couple of results in the senior football championship today , cratloe are still on for the double after a 4 point win over o'curry's at lissycasey , they had led by 10 points halfway through the second half a late flurry of scores and chances had them on the ropes late on , the fixture between clondegad and killmurry ibrickane is off due to a tragic farming accident at clondegads request

    senior b semi final

    lissycasey 0-16 - 0-10 ennistymon

    senior chamionship 1/4 final

    cratloe 0-16 -1-09 o'curry's

yeah it must have hurt doonbeg alright , it seemed as if the game was over dispite only 1 point in it . a lucky bounce caught out doonbeg which left a 1 on 1 most players would have fisted it over the bar and take extra time

cooraclare were the better team but kicked a criminal amount of wides

the junior championship was at 1/4 final stage at the weekend

    naomh eoin 1-16 1-08 ballyvaughen

    ennistymon 2-11 1-08 kilrush

    moy 2-05 0-13 michael cusacks

with coolmean stil to play clondegad, i would imagine naomh eoin and coolmeen would be the strongest teams in the division and would imagine one of them 2 teams will be contesting intermediate next year

Don't rule ennistymon, though it depends if they've lost players to the seniors..
Would hoping for a naomh eoin win myself!!

And given that choice they were always going to pick the footballers.

They get to work with there father and the team environment seems a lot less serious than the hurling panel under Davy.

Massive boost for the football panel anyway and hopefully they produce the goods again next year.

Ridiculous decision, ****ing waste. Football in Clare is a joke.

Absolutely massive blow to the hurlers but I do give Podge a lot of respect for making the decision. It'll cause and even bigger divide in the county board now!

such a good hurler, you'd think there would be some way that they could line out for both

    Shame.

But they're entitled to make their own decisions

Daddy or Davy. Only going to be one winner. Footballs gain is hurling's loss. Podge was sublime against us in the semi final last year.

I think it a great day for Clare Footballers. Too often Clare Football has played second fiddle to the hurlers. They dont have half the resouces given to the hurlers. The appointement of Colm Collins was the first decent management since John O'Keefe was involved in 98. This year there was actually a professional set up and first time in years that the county best players wanted to play for their county.Progress was made with promotion to Division 3 and playing 5 Championship games. If could get also Liam Markham and Cathal McInerney they would be huge additions too.

He is missing out on winning all irelands though. .... and for what? The chance to play under your father? Where's his ambition gone? Football in clare is poor at best. Disappointing day for our hurling tradition

There is as much chance of Clare footballers winning silverware next year than the hurlers.

People were calling for Podge to give up one code and concentrate fully on one all year,He has now done that but there seems to be a big problem that he picked football.

Cork will have the same problem with there lads if they choose the big ball

No chance of clare footballers winning anything major next year. Great chance of the hurlers winning many all Irelands in years to come if they stick together and play as one. I think this is more a case of podge throwing his toys out of the cot cos he had been called out over playing both codes. Very sad if that is the case

He is an amateur sportsman, whom I am sure would love to play both codes for the county as he did this year. If certain individuals cannot facilitate that then it say alot more about them than either of the Collins brothers.

Very harsh to accuse of him " throwing his toys out of the cot cos he had been called out over playing both codes". To me it seems that Footballers were happy with dual situation, Hurlers told him make a choice; so he chose football. Hurling is very competitive so hard to know how much silverware Clare will win in coming years - Tipp, Limerick and Cork all fancy their chances at silverware in coming years also.
Clare footballers really put it up to Kerry this year. Not miles away from winning a Munster title which would be huge for them!

It's not a case of facilitating the lads playing both codes. . It's a case of reiterating that it cannot be done without one suffering over the other. It was obvious this year that podge was not at his best with the hurlers. Even aidan walsh with cork looked jaded in the semi final

Could pick plenty of non dual player in that Cork side that looked 'jaded' in that semi final not to mention plenty from the Clare hurlers all year as well.

If somebody was forcing the issue behind the scenes well they sure got their answer, all I can say is tough **** if they don't like it.

I think this is hilarous. If managment feel that player can't play both to 100% level, then fine - up to them not to pick them. But I'd rather have Podge Collins at 95% then not have him at all.
Comments about Aidan Walsh are cheap shots being made all year by people and the media. "Even aidan walsh with cork looked jaded in the semi final". 90% of the cork team looked jaded against tipperary -they simply didn't turn up. To pick out Aidan Walsh is silly. Same after Kerry v Cork - media / commentator criticised Walsh, Cahalane and Cadogan and brought up dual issue and that you couldn't do both. Them three players were no worse than rest of cork team that they. To a man, they all played very poorly.
Walsh was outstanding in Munster hurling final against Limerick - no mention of this anywhere!

Some arrogance considering the year the Clare Seniors have had.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,187 ✭✭✭opinionated3

Not at all arrogant. I do believe that there is fantastic potential there with this bunch of players and if managed correctly there is definitely more all Ireland victories in them. And my point is that podge will miss out on that.

The lads were forced into the decision by Davy Fitz and not their father. Davy made a big issue of them playing football. It had little to do with Clare's performances this year. Clare, like many other teams before them, suffered from second season syndrome. They will be back as a team to be reckoned with next season and under-age success will ensure a steady crop of new players to keep them in the top 2-3 teams in the country in the coming years. For the 2015 championship I would rate them (begrudgingly) in the top 4 teams.

This is an overreaction by Davy Fitz and not the Collins' brothers. It's clear that Davy gave them an ultimatum and now it has backfired. Expect plenty of back-pedalling and internal negotiations this winter and Podge Collins to be wearing the 15 jersey for Clare hurlers next season.
