I bought my saab with the intention of doing all that, and more, it's changed my opinion of cars and made me more aware of how delicate they can me, I'm just shy of 2k of parts in mine, and as was said today, It'l be better than the day it left the showroom when im done, so yes, its a special type of madness indeed :)

    Looks nice in pictures already....

You've got thousands of moving parts working in concert, day-in day-out for years on end. It's amazing they're as robust as they are...

Although, when I had the airbox off to fit the ignition coils I also noticed a vacuum line had come off a long time ago - and the engine had already learned to compensate for the slight leak with fuelling trims that it now had to unlearn with the new coils and an surprisingly clean air filter and MAF.

I went through a faze where I wanted an FTO but then I started to look at the car and(this is my opinion, it looks like a womans car) hope you don't still have it after I said that. I just wanted it for the V6 mivec engine.

No I dont still have it, but It was a great car, IMO it had sleek lines and a design that had more in comon with the italians than the Japanese, great V6 sound and it had no vanity mirror on the driverside so it was not aimed at women;).

Got tipped off about two M5s in Poland.

    First one: €4,800, 1993 3.8 340hp.
Why don't I have the bloody cash?! :(

135k miles on the clock, finished in Calypsorot. Needs a few minor bits, but engine and body are straight.

I'd even keep the bloody thing over in Poland, but I'd have the satisfaction of simply owning an M5.

    Second one: €4,100, 1989 3.6 315hp.
Bit rougher than the first one, body needs a little love, engine is tip-top, 112k miles on the clock, finished in Blue.

And I know of a 1999 high miler E39 M5 that will pop up on car ad sites in Poland soon as well, 196k miles, VANOS rebuilt, guy supposedly is gonna ask for €6,500.

Oh I wish I had some spare change...

Wrong mirrors for the year. Where's the side repeaters? Wrong steering wheel too. I'd be weary

I'd go for the 89 one if I had the choice

My damn cheap ass aftermarket coil pack is acting up.
Rang a Mitsubishi main dealer and they want €389. I said is that for a full set and they said no just one. I was like wot da fúck.
A place in New Zealand has a OEM part for €150 which is what I was expecting the price to be but they do not ship outside New Zealand. I found another website where I fill in all my details and they get back to you with a price, they are suposedly genuine Mitsi parts as well. I don't even know where they ship from.

As usual when I am looking for things onlione I find them in America but they want really high shipping rates and then you will also be stung for customs on top as well.

I got a used genuine toyota one for my car on ebay for 20 euro. Just search by the original part number which should be stamped on them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,309 ✭✭✭✭wotzgoingon

Tried that and there are none on ebay. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,855 ✭✭✭nd

Or a breakers. I got one there too but it was a bit more expensive. Just be sure to test it in the car before leaving.

E34 ans specially M5 would be something I would LOVE to own at some point in my life. I guess the benefit of having it in Poland is, that you dont have the Tax system and insurance generally lower.
I guess if you going back to poland often enough and got where to keep it, it would be a fantastic Holiday car.

Done my first proper wiring job today on the 900

    Felt like this

No tax, insurance for myself would be a handy €560 a year, and that's with No NCB and it's not even classic insurance.

There's one more for €7,300, but it's incredibly clean:

No side repeaters on this one either dgt so....

Glad to hear that, it was crazy money for one, more than what I paid three years ago for mine from a dealer with warranty also.

For insurance you can't look passed 123 for the ST. they're the cheapest by far.

I'd like a facelift one if could find one I think too. What's fair price for 07 or 08s?

I personally prefer the pre facelift, mainly due to it being more definable than the facelift the facelift looks too much like the standard Zetec S. Doesn't stand out enough for my liking. ;)

For a pre facelift with low to middle mileage you should be looking at 7-8k. For the facelift you'd be look 8.5-10k depending on year really. If I was you I'd be holding out until one with a decent spec came up, it makes a lot of difference and there are a lot out there that are base spec.

Well, according to the VIN it has:
    S240A LEATHER STEERING WHEEL

So I'm not sure if it's a wrong steering wheel.

Ya I'll keep an eye out for one ideally want it in cork! Your right about 123 525 for the st that's a grand quote in fairness. Might look into putting the Accord up for sale soon see any interest say 9ish prob.

Most M5's have the tri spoke wheel, some have a horrible 4 spoke wheel. That looks like the airbag wheel from a TU

This may seem like a silly question but I am a complete rube when it comes to buying cars but can you tax a car without having an insurance policy on it or does the car itself have to be insured?

Ya don't need to enter in correct insurance info when taxing anyway as I never do! So I'm going to say no!

Plonk down any number you want on the tax sheet

They can't check them while giving you the tax disc

Go look at my old one if it's still for sale, guy who bought it off me has a 350bhp golf gti before he went to aus.

If nothing else it will set a benchmark of what a decent one is like to drive.

Well it's in kk so bit of a trek. Plus private sale won't be any good unless I get rid of current car first which could take time!
