Secure some skirting board to the wall

Hi I need to secure some skirting board to the wall..it is currently nailed in see images below What is the best way to secure this flush against the wall? Should I put more nails into it? Hi

The "top down" pic is showing one hell of a gap. Are the walls true ? Is the skirting warped ? You should be able to get it closer, and then use decorators caulk in a regular silicon gun to finish the work. Its fully paintable once cured.
