    did dublin win the toss?

No Murphy won the toss and elected to defend the Hill in the first half, one of the many good decisions he made today.

Can anyone think why Michael Murphy had a problem with Dermot Connolly? Do they have history? Twice he went in looking to hurt him.

Maybe cos Connolly was one of the few playing well? Or maybe just coincidence

the bookies got it wrong... Donegal @ 7-1 Dublin @ 1-10, they are going to have to try and balance their books now Id say.

I couldnt get over how gracious the Dublin supporters were after the game today. I'd say 10 shook my hand and wished us the best for the final. A taxi driver (wearing a Dublin jersey) was stopped alongside us at lights, he rolled down his window to congratulate us.

Never seen anything like that. EVER.

    Fair play to Dublin.

    We're generally a gracious bunch. :)

As I said earlier the best team won. No won could complain about how it panned out.

The difference in losing semi finals like today and against Mayo in 2012 is simply because by he best team won. Conversely look at us v Cork in 2010 and everytime I saw a Cork shirt walking from HQ to Connolly I wanted to deck them. It's all about a contextual loss. In 2009 Kerry wiped the floor with us and Galvin showed a masterclass at no point was I bitter about the result because I couldn't complain.

Today was one of those days.

The odd bitterness being showed to Dublin on here by some is actually mental when you consider how the game and the crowd were afterwards.

However, I think I speak for all of us Metropolitans when I say "HON DONEGAL" come the 21st.

No the game was over when he went for him the second time.

    Better team won no doubt.

Dublin's run of walkovers to the semi-final really showed today. They weren't battle-hardened at all. 2011 they had tough, close games against Kildare & Donegal. In 2013 the semi-final against Kerry had them ready for the final. A team who has gone to the well will usually prevail against a team that has had it easy... especially if they are of comparable ability.

Didn't see Donegal winning this and after today anything is possible in sport. Kerry won't have it easy in final that's for sure.

Did he switch hands? It's a technical foul if he did.

No - he completed the hand switch legally - kept his left hand on it until right hand had connected - took at least 7 steps however so on that basis it should have been allowed.

Though having said that I would estimate that every MD McCauley solo run should be a technical foul as well to pick one examples....

I do think a lot was made with Dublin dominating football for next 10 years. In 2011 they stole the AI off Kerry who were 4 points clear in 64th min and then made few mistakes in possession that brought Dublin back into game with Mcmemains goal. In 2012 they were beaten well by Mayo. In 2013 they nearly lost to Kerry until the 69th min when they got one break and Mcmemain scored a goal to get Dublin clear and Connolly and Rock got the insurance scores to get victory. They only beat Mayo in final by a point. 2014 they steamrolled everyone but weren't up to it when they met Donegal. Leinster didn't do any justice to Dublin this year and that's why they lost today. Same as Cork in 2011, we were hot favourites that day against Mayo and Mayo destroyed us. Dublin are a great team even after today's result and will be back competing in 2015.

There was no stealing in 2011. The game is 70 min long. Kerry should have closed that out. The same issue arose last week with Mayo not closing the game out.

Likewise the semi last year, Dublin rightly deserved to win by 7. Kerry didn't score another point after the 62nd min. That's the guts of 10min play left including change. Dublin charged on and put them away. If Dublin scored those scores in 40-50min period no one would have batted an eyelid at the scoreline.

The final last year was rarely in doubt. It was too close considering what had gone on previously but I wasn't at all worried to be fair. There always seemed to be another score in us.

2012 v Mayo there were no complaints with how it transpired.

    ---

I agree with the sentiment of your post however. :)

There'll be no dominating for a while yet from anyone.

Dublin stole nothing from Kerry in 2011.

They gave away a great goal to lead at half time and then came back when Kerry went 4 points up with 10 minutes to go when all seemed lost.

That All ireland will go down as one of Dublins's greatest ever in years to come.If was painful for the likes of Cahill, Cluxton, Brogan,Quinn etc to keep going back after 4/5 cruel all ireland semi final defeats from 2002 to 2010 but they stuck at it and got their moment. To beat Tyrone and Kerry who haunted them for years and then to beat an emerging Donegal was a great achievement and all the talk of domainace, professional setups and populations is irrelevant as is talk that they stole it from Kerry.

i wonder did dublin believe all the hype, eh ?

Well done donegal, had huge support at that game. Hopefully they'll go on and win it now.

Not saying they did but Kerry were in a great position. It took a mistake from Declan o Sullivan which gifted possession back to Dublin and Dublin got their goal. It certainly turned the tide in that match. In 2013 Dublin were a way better and didn't fold against the challenge Kerry gave them. I still think they would beat Kerry if they had got to final as they would play a similar style to Kerry.

Have noticed that now that a lot of players are tucking the ball in two hands to opposite side and running rugby style. Andy Moran for his fisted point yesterday n common with him, MDMA/McManamon continuously, David Moran is turn left/right/left again with no solo in order to escape pressure. It has been let slide badly. Players are using the pressure of tackling to get the leeway of the ref. Refs always give a tackled player up to 7/8 steps to escape pressure.
It's making it very difficult for defenders. If the player doesnt solo you've no opportunity to disposess. This is in all teams btw above are just recent examples from semi finals.

You have to respect Donegal. They will win or lose with grace.
With Kerry you will have excuses, whinging and crying when they lose.

Dublins problems were summed up in 20 secs of tv around 60mins in. Flynn charges through the defence towards goal and is fouled. He gets up pouring in sweat gasping for breath. Connolly saunters over to take the resulting free and look like a man out for the pre match kick around. Dublin had too many Connollys and not enough Flynns today. Alot of players went missing today, but Donegal were amazing. Hope they win it out now

Some of their players went missing today when it counted, but Diarmuid Connolly wasn't one of them. He was brilliant today; one of the most naturally gifted footballers I've ever seen.

EDIT: Just to add, at the game as a neutral*, I thought Joe McQuillan had an outstanding game. While poor displays should be highlighted and not glossed over, I think, as someone said earlier in the thread, it's important to give credit too for a good performance. Thought the ref in the minor game had a brilliant game too.
*Was probably clapping a bit louder for donegal to be honest.

True, nasty punch to the stomach in the second half. Should have saw red.

as someone already said replay proved it wasn't a punch but a hard tackle. I've zero sympathy for this group of Dubs. How many times have they bullied small and weak teams with thumbing tackles. MDMC, Connolly, Flynn, O'Gara and a few others regularly thump opposition players when tackling them and usually always get away with it.

The ref today did his best to bring the dubs back into the game but in fairness he picked up on some of this Dublin "tackling" today.

    Good point, McFukhead.

Do people ever tire of the 'this county's fan are X and this county's fans are Y' stuff?

Is this what the next few weeks is going to be about? The graceful, buoyant honesty and handwork of the Donegal team and people versus the cheating, whining official bribing Kerry team and people?

    Wopeee. Can't wait.

Where's the 15 20 point wins that were being touted here in this thread and yesterday?

Blame the media for that guff. No team is unbeatable or unplayable.

    Well done donegal

    Was at the match myself

Life long gaa man and dub supporter.

The team with more desire and will to win won.

    The goals killed us!

Have to say though ..... it makes me appreciate 2011 all the more... and shows how hard it is to win back to back football all irelands.

Take nothing from this dublin panel of players ... they gave it everything all year... its a full time job now!

The dubs will be back next year...

No more talk of this dublin dominance... Gaa is in a very healthy shape... in my opinion

    Ath Cliath Abú

    But but but.....

Population advantage, too much cash, home games, <insert other ****e reason>

Will people now start clamouring for Kerry (the most dominant football team of all time) or Donegal to be split in two?

    Will they ****e

I thought myself the rule around the number of steps was generally thrown out the window yesterday for both teams, if a ref is playing an advantage he still shouldnt be allowing extra steps, he should bring it back for the original free.

I don't see this game being as close or as tight as all the pundits are predicting. I think Donegal will get the same treatment as all the other teams we've encountered this year so far and will be lucky to be within 6 or 7 points of us at the end. To honest, I can easily see a dubs victory in the 12-15+ points range.

What's your tip for the final?
