There is a line of thought that suggests that we are in hell.

One of the most striking things about Dante's writing was his characters in the Inferno stop in the middle of their torments, seemingly oblivious to the fact that they are being tortured in hell. They had no idea.

Even though it's complete bullshít, I do find that thought quite interesting. :p

Becasue it's NOT a square. It's a pyramid. A great, big, giant PYRAMID. But they called it The Square.

It's like calling The Spire in O'Connell street The Circle.

    'Ah First World problems'.

That saying is so fcukin common and annoying right now.

    Same here!

Maybe it's because the layout is so unclear and claustrophobic. It doesn't know what it is.

Bus drivers who behave like w*nkers. I was waiting for a bus yesterday. It was parked up while the driver went off to do something. There were 5 of us waiting and the queue grew very long. The driver came back and instead of just opening the door and letting us get on he drove about 5 feet on so that the back of the queue became the front.

Totally unnecessary and cnutish behaviour.

The way restaurants charge a massive premium for sweet potato fries. Drives me mad; sweet potatoes are as cheap as, well, chips.

Yuk, I can't stand sweet potatoes. I know they're supposed to be a healthy alternative but for me if a potato isn't mashed, roasted or drizzled with lemon juice, well then it's just not going in my mouth. Some things are just too disgusting to swallow. :D

You can do all those things with sweet potatoes?

Yeah, but they're sweet. There's just something unnatural about a potato being sweet.

Catching up on this thread after 7 days without internet access.

Forgetting the list of annoyances that grew in my head over the last 7 days that I planned to put here.

Not if you season them properly they're not. Cumin & cayenne - drooooolllll...

This morning's other annoyance: wanting sweet potatoes at 9.30am.

I've got another hospital appointment this afternoon. At least my husband is off today so we can go have a coffee and do a bit of window shopping afterwards.

2nd trivial annoyance. I really fancy some fish and chips for dinner, we rarely have take out, fish and chips are usually oven cooked in our house. I was good last night and had a jacket potato for dinner instead of a 4 cheese pizza. I'm trying to watch my weight, but I really want fish and chips. If I give in I'll hate myself. If I don't give in I'll be disappointed.

Normally I'd just say "Go for it, you'll be a long time dead" or something like that. But seriously, how long will it take you to eat the fish and chips? 10 minutes? 15 maybe?

How long will you regret it for? Hours? A day maybe?

    Yeah, not worth it.

Pumpkinseeds could you share a portion of fish and chips with your hubby ?
That way you get to enjoy it but have a smaller portion

My in-laws are divorced, monster in law remarried. Anyways, my husband was talking to her on the phone the other night and she asked if he was going over to them in the UK for Christmas, I haven't spoken to her for 5 years, so she knows I wouldn't be going over. For fecks sake, he's going over in January for his dad's 70th birthday, why the hell would he be going over for Christmas too.

Grrrrr!! I like Christmas just fine, just not in bloody August! This kind of thing is even more annoying than when I was a youngfella and various asshole shops were suddenly full of copybooks and pencil-cases at the end of July, and trumpeting about "Back to Skool!!", "Amazing Back to School Fun Deal-o-Rama!!", and "Back-to-School Extra Value Schoolbag-Fest Lollapalooza!!". Oh how I wished for "Little Tyke's Super-Duper Value .50-calibre Machine-Gun!!".

Ahh Jim, you're making me nostalgic now. Showing my age here, but does anyone remember the Halloween masks hanging around Quinnsworth. We used to get all excited about them and all they were was a simple flimsy bit of plastic. Always a witch or frankenstein, still, we thought they were great. :D

Em, people saying Frankenstein, when they mean Frankensteins monster.....

    Sorry Pumpkin.

The Frankenstein's monster ones had big red cartoonish sutures on them I remember.
Cardboard Witches' hats as well, pointy!

nasty sharp edged plastic, with a tiny little tictac shaped hole for your mouth, that you inexplicably had to try and poke your tongue through, and ended up hurting it

the little elastic string never stayed on longer then the drive home from the shops either

ooo, some nostalgic trivial things :pac:

People who say "systematic" when they mean "systemic"

That really annoys me for some reason
