I'm currently waiting on a ferry home with my new car at Holyhead. Picked it up yesterday evening and I am very happy with it. I had planned to bring home a Honda CRZ but instead ended up with 1.6 turbo, 200 BHP, 6 speed and French. Can't wait to get home, because this place is dead :/

Good lad, there's not enough of those in Ireland, one passed me on the motorway the other day, quite a looker

Love how you went for a CRZ and got an RCZ

I had no intentions of looking at other cars, but it was on the forecourt with the Honda and it really caught my eye. As well as a Fiat Punto Abarth. Loved the idea of it but it looked a bit OTT with the Abarth decals and Italian flags all over it, plus I really wanted a coupe.

I haven't seen it that high in a few weeks. It's been 150.9 or 151.9 in the garages around here

I filled it at €1.58.9 in Galway recently... :o

But worse than that, my new Focus (2006 1.6 Petrol) seems to have developed a misfire under load! Anyone hear of this happening before, is it common? :(

Check for water in the plug Wells! Common thing on them!
Don't let it persist or it'll finish your cat :(

WAT. It's been around 151.9 down here for the last few weeks.

Yeah, my local garage is 1.499 / litre for petrol and 1.399 for diesel. Best it's been for a couple years now.

Surely when the engine warms up that'd get rid of it though? It seems grand at the start, then it starts misfiring when warmed up.

No because the Wells are sealed once the leads are in place. It's not that anyway if it's only doing it when warm. Try a set of plugs and see what happens.

Bad that we are saying that 149.9 and 140.9 are good prices, but yeah it has come down a lot recently.
My regular station for most cars (wouldn't send the Z or a modern diesel there though) is now 139.9 for diesel and 148 (i think) for gassssoliiine

I like to consider it this way:

1 Litre of Coke: 1.80 or thereabouts
    1 Litre of Petrol: 1.50.

Petrol is way better value :pac:

Weren't they 40k+ new and only in diesel here?

Yes, and I got my one for almost 1/3 of that at 2 years old with 25,000 miles.

    Gotta love depreciation.

Just changed the coolant by pass valve in the car, it's reignited my hatred of hose clips

The springy ones? Nothing worse. Even if you've a good hold of them with a vice grips they'll still spring off if you let go.

    Jubilee Clips win every time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,606 ✭✭✭toastedpickles

Yep them ones, hate them with a passion, they're on the coolant lines so I cant stick a jubilee clip on with all the expansion going on and what not, got it all sorted out though now :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,313 ✭✭✭Mycroft H

I'm pretty sure after I've thrown the spring clamp in the field out of sheer annoyance and then I've replaced them with jubilee clips. In fact the defender had them all round as far as I remember. Cant see thermal expansion being a problem unless you weld the worm drive tight.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,606 ✭✭✭toastedpickles

Ahh right, well bit late for that now! :pac: Seriously hate the things with a passion though, and they're all over the engine

Is it just me or are there flies everywhere lately? I'm killing at least one everytime I get into the car (about twice a day).

Is there a nest of them in my car somewhere, or is this something everyone's experiencing? Only really copped it over the last week or so. Have been leaving the windows open (about an inch) overnight for the last few weeks though (I'm guessing that's how they're getting in).

Wrecking my fcuking head dealing with them.

Changed the dipped light in the golf today. Infairness the two bulbs that were in it weren't to bad. Two philips look like they were from the factory although I'm not sure what brand vw use. Anyway put in two osram nightbreaker plus. I have said it before but they are some serious bulbs great increase in the amount of light they put out and it is whiter and as I said the bulbs that were in it weren't that bad but the osrams are still a huge improvement.

As for changing the bulbs the golf was the most user friendly car I've ever changed bulbs on loads of behind each headlight. Just unscrew the dust cover on the headlight and the bulb itself just screws out then you don't even touch a wire. Have to say it was nice piping the bonnet and seeing a nice clean dry engine. All the covers where the should no leaks anywhere really clean too. Nice change from opening the bonnet on the focus and trying to figure out where that weeks oil or coolant leak was coming from.

I don't know where to post this, but I need to post it somewhere and let off some steam. These are on a 2004 Audi A4 in my apartment car park at the moment. The first two photos are the passenger side rear wheel and the last one is the driver side rear wheel. The owner came out shouting and screaming at me for taking photos. I was honestly just speechless. She was a young lady of about 20ish. She shouted all sorts of profanities at me while I just stood there not knowing what to say. I just got into my car and drove off. There was a ****ing child seat in the back of this car. I honestly just do not know what to do or feel or say.

I'd report that to the Gardai before she kills herself, her child or someone else.

    Cvnt.

I think I need to. I have the cars reg too, I was sure to take that down. How do I go about that, do I just go into a station with the photos?

That's horrendous, please report it to the guards its far beyond dangerous.
I hope you got the registration. Seriously I think you are almost certainly saving a life or preventing an accident by reporting that.
