While driving around the Focus engine makes a 4-second long "sighing" sound every few minutes. Would anybody know what this could be?

Hmm. Something HVAC-y to do with the climate control, methinks?

Maybe it's depressed about it's humdrum life?

I don't know what causes this but I had a Honda that would "moo" when it was parked. Used to scare the bejebus out of passers-by...

My Escorts used to have a tortured sound when the loud pedal was pressed, like they were saying AAAAARGH WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!!!!

The Daily van bleats like a goat when it's parked every few minutes :pac:

A lot of smarty pants here! :D I did notice that when I turned off the engine there was the same "sighing" (I can't think of a better description!) off the engine when it shut down, as there was when I was stuck in traffic. I don't have climate control so it couldn't be that (but thanks for serious suggestion).

    Do you have aircon?

Yes, although I definitely hadn't got it on when I turned the car off last (and that "sighing" sound came on upon shutdown).

Could still be a compressor bearing.
