O2 doesn't allow tethering on Prepay and blocks it. I think you can on bill pay, but they charge extra.

can you explain how they block it? how do they distinguish phone internet from tethering internet?

    thanks

I've honestly for no idea the tech stuff behind how they block it, I assume it's an internal thing.

It can be charged for differently if it is set up to use different APNs

I don't think it can be blocked as such like you're trying, I would say check your APN settings that they are correct for prepay or just leave it a while to see if the connection starts working. I sometimes get that limited connection problem too when I connect my laptop to my phone, it takes a few minutes to start working, I think its an IP/ARP cache problem.

This is typical of the messing that goes on when you use the pre-loaded Samsung tethering application. Get PdaNet+ on the Google Store.

I expect you'll have to root the phone. Might be easier to just get a second SIM for Broadband.
