Anyone's going to find Jews arrogant if they have their minds made up before meeting them that they're to be suspicious of.

a village called effin in limerick and also a village called hospital which could cause confusion for people not acquainted with the region:pac:

Also a place in Limerick called Strand that's about 50 miles from the sea. And Carraigkerry which is 20 minutes from Kerry.

    Limerick's odd like that.

People don't always "choose" to take offence. You've got your Joe Duffy phoning types who look for offence everywhere, yes, but you've also got those instances where people can't help being offended, it's not voluntary.
I'm always quite suspicious of people who say "You can choose to be offended" in relation to even grossly horrible stuff. They know perfectly well people don't always choose to be offended in these cases, and it just smacks of wanting it to be ok for people to say awful things.

That's true, but we do all have a choice in what information, media, art, public events we wish to partake in, and so for example a one man stand comedian making a horrible joke should be at leisure to do so without fear of being censured, IMO, since people choose to attend the event or not.
If you take part in a discussion online, it's pretty obvious to all at this stage I think that you should be prepared to read the most outrageous, sometimes offensive comments. It's part of the internet.

In the case of the hamlet's name, it is good that the inhabitants had the signs removed, and a postal address without that name, that would have made it more likely that someone would come across it and be genuinely offended by something they didn't choose to see. The potential for the name offending anyone who might consult the cadastre was pretty slim, it did happen, and it's more than likely the name will be changed now, so it's all no big deal really. There will probably still be the historical maps with it, but that's history so whoever looks at those should be prepared for unsavoury historical material.
I think you can "choose to be offended" if you are exposing yourself to something you know could have offensive material, iykwim.

On a radio show a few years ago (2FM I think) a listener was doing a quiz and when asked what was he doing said that he was taking firewood to Hospital, the DJ asked him which Hospital was it and said that he thought that it was strange for a hospital to need firewood.

Another brilliant contribution. Well done, that man.

And you even (sort of) use bad language to get your "point" (using the term loosely) across...

    You're so edgy, like.

...and you keep making ridiculous claims in your posts.

There's a very small little place in France that has a dodgy name. The locals aren't bothered (and don't go out on Jew-hunts). The locals would like to keep the name. So, let them.

If a group, thousands of miles away, insists that it's affecting their life negatively (after a millenium of the existence of the name), let them prove it and then ask the locals to change it. The locals may or may not vote on the topic.

If the people in the Jewish group are unsuccessful, they should be gracious enough to accept it. If not, they are showing that they are just showing that they have their own agenda. Not a pretty agenda...

I always liked the episode of Seinfeld when Jerry said that he was 'making out' during "Schindler's List" so never saw the ending.
