Cancelling AA Car Insurance

    I recently sold my car and have two months left on my insurance,
    I'm not getting a new car as I'm moving country soon.
    Apparently if I cancel I have to pay AA €50 to cancel and won't get any of my premium back.

    My question is - would I just be able to leave it, not cancel and let my insurance run out (not paying them anything) or is there an issue with me still being insured on a car that I don't actually own anymore?

    Youre not supposed to hold an insurance policy on anything that you do not have an insurable interest in, nor should there be two policies in effect on the same car (which is technically an issue for the new owner taking out insurance). However, provided you dont try and claim for the car, I dont see how they will know or care.

    You cant just stop paying for the policy however. Either cancel it properly, or keep paying until it finishes. If you stop paying then the insurer will cancel the policy for you, which is all fine and dandy until you go to take out insurance again and have to answer "yes" when asked if you have ever had a policy cancelled on you. By all accounts this is a bit of a nightmare situation to be in.

    Also, if you pay until the end of the year you earn that years no claims bonus.
    That could earn you discounts on the next insurance policy in whatever country you're moving to.
