Its people not caring that allows this sh1t to continue. And when you dont care about it, you shouldnt have the right to moan about it on the internet.

You rang the company, they are based in Dublin, why the F^%k did you not cancel your amazon order and make an order over the phone with the company. Even with a 12 quid voucher you are still 8 pounds stirling down.

    Get over yourself would ya.

Who said it was a voucher?

You don't know so don't judge me.

The thread is "When were you last outraged at a stupid charge". You got a stupid charge and didnt get out raged, in fact you used the phrase "What do I care", but you posted in the thread anyway.

Im f^%kin outraged right now. Instead of cancelling your order and getting your 20 quid back and dealing with the dublin based comapny direct, you couldnt be bothered so accepted a 12 quid refund(Not voucher, REFUND). It takes about 3 clicks to cancel an Amazon order so why didnt you?

Don't judge you? You posted here with your anecdote first.

The Cliffs of Moher is only marginally cheaper - €6, plus another €2 if you want to go up the tower. Last time I was there it was free, and tbh I can't see myself ever visiting again because impressive as the cliffs are, they're not worth paying to see.

We were there the other day in the fine weather and they were fabulous:)

You pay another €6 to go into the visitor centre, but we didn't bother as we had a good walk around instead. Kids all went free though

I'm still laughing at the sensitively concealed underground environmentally sympathetic interpretive centre...... and across the road they scarified the land with a huge unsightly car park as big as any shopping centre!
    like WTF?

The Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland is an absolute rip. They charge you 8.50 (in Pounds, that is) each to go in through the visitors centre. But don't worry, the price includes parking. Tourist trap of the highest order and immoral really seen as it's natural rock, nobody should own it. Also, it's a bit sh*t.

    as opposed to imitation rock?

Ordered some stuff from Amazon Marketplace. The postage came to just under £20. The usual choice of suck it up or don't order. Anyway I assumed internatiol postage so ....

Little while later recieved an e-mail from the company thanking me for custom blah blah. urns out the cnuts are in Dublin.

So I fcuked off about 4 e-mails to be told "nothing we can do" :(

    were the emails:

1 "is it really nearly 20 quid postage?"

    2 "really?"

    3 "really!"

    4 "ah no really though?"

To notify the HSE that we are getting married, what do u tink tey wud charge?...... 200 euro. 200 flaming euro...wat a rip off, went over, showed them our i.d, signed a form and hand over 200 euro.. This is a new charge as my sister never had to pay this when she got married a few years ago

Eh, is that the marriage license you're talking about? If so, your sister did have to pay for that. Probably €150, as it's only recently gone up to €200. Is it the marriage license you're talking about?

Kids were encouraged to take part in inter communal/school athletics. Multiple days training in school, etc... Then their school got through to semis, held in a bigger school's big field in town, bring along as much support as you can, grannies etc...: 3€ charge for every adult to go support the child running in a field ! No attractions or anything like that, just big school field, crappy portable mike speaker, and a chip van (at an athletics event ).

Had I been asked from day one some contribution towards organisation, fair enough... But this felt like an ambush, and I was shocked and outraged.

In Europe this phenomenon of 'city tax' on top of the hotel room bill when you check out , it's in Barcelona and Berlin now within the lat 18 months or so

To be fair though this is being imposed on the hotel from above, ie the municipal authorities, and not something the hotels are trying to sneak in to your bill. After all, they themselves don't see a cent from it.

Bit suspicious though when you say you were charged on the way out. I only ever paid city tax on the way in, and actually got something back for it in return. In Germany for example the hotel always gives a book of discount vouchers for city owned attractions, museums and the like, etc, or pretty much anything that's maintained by public money.

In Switzerland all the hotels will give you a free travel card for unlimited use of buses, trams, ferries, etc. Even in Basel a couple of weeks ago this included free transport to the "local" airport which is actually located in France, so I wouldn't say that was a rip-off by any means.

Dunno about your experience in Barca though. Sounds to me like you were scammed TBH, as other places give you something in advance of paying these fees.

Ordered a parcel from Amazon, delivery seemed a bit expensive and I noticed I had €3.50 in my Parcel Motel account (the cost of a Parcel Motel stay/delivery).

Or at least it was until a few weeks ago when they upped the price to €3.95 per delivery. I was never informed of the price increase and as I'm moving country soon I won't have any need for Parcel Motel in the near future.
But of course the minimum they let you top up your account by is €10.

So I've basically shelled out €13.50 delivery for an unimportant €7 item I got online. Would have been cheaper to pay the original extortionate delivery charge.

    Not a happy bunny.

I think you have to read all of the post rather than just the bits you want to. The comment "What do I care" referred to Amazon's reason for intervening - nothing more. I don't care about their rationale.

The weight of these items is not inconsiderable - there always was going to be a postage charge.

Given that there is also a certain amount of rounding in telling the story - I don't think I came out badly.

If the items had come from the UK, I would have paid the charge. My outrage was at discovering that the comppany was in Dublin.

Back in the boom, the missus was getting her hair done for a wedding, stupidly, I decided to go with her. There were all sorts of magazines and news papers, €2 it cost to read them, this was in a big hairdressing chain. Man what were people thinking back then!?

What does it for me is that some of the petrol stations have started charging for Air to blow up your tyres.
No I don't mean putting the 2euro in so you will replace the nozzle, actually charging for Air.

I'm a little late to reply to this but I think it's supposed to be quite expensive to run those compressor machines. Not to mind all the careless users who pump their tyres up and then just **** the hose off somewhere or leave it around to be driven over and broken.

Went into Clare Hall shopping center last week and Mrs Bump wanted to get a picture printed from her phone to send to her grandmother. She finally hooks it up to the machine via blue tooth, And after 5 minutes typing in her name on the the crappy touch screen which kept ****ing up she walks up to the counter to get her ticket for collection. Guy turns around and says there is a minimum charge of €5 to get pics printed!

Asked him why it doesnt say that on the machine to which he points to a label on the SIDE of them that you won't see. Swiftly told him to **** off and got it done yesterday on O'Connell street for less.

Customs charging tax on the shipping. I have no issue paying tax on the product, as more often than not the product is not locally available. But having to pay a customs tax on the cost of the shipping pisses me off.

Feel the same way myself. Walk there from Liscannor and enjoy the views on the way. Did it myself last Saturday. Highly recommend it.

I'd imagine some charges, like this are there more to discourage unnecessary use/exploiting rather then to make a quick buck. Hospital in this case is trying to limit the visitations.

Same for some petrol stations charging for using the air pumps, its not that they are trying to make their millions from it but when it was 'free' people didn't care and would often damage the hoses.

If you want to rent an apartment in the netherlands you have to pay the estate agent, a fee of first months rent + 21% VAT. All they do is show you the place and give you a contract Disgusting.

Having to fight with my gas provider to fix my footpath outside cause they cut it up to disconnect.
Funny thing was they were at the wrong house, my address is repeated all over the estate with vary subtle differences.
I was just unlucky that my gas company and the one is question were both the same and the other people had owed something like 600 euro. The gas lads still tried to charge me to fix the path they cut up.

Didn't go so well for them

Renewed my car insurance and realised a couple of months later that they never sent me the disc. Rang up to request a new one, was told the charge would be €20. Argued this as it was their f*ck up, not mine, they refused to budge. I was told I could either pay the 20 or I wouldn't be insured!? I eventually caved and paid but I'm raging I didn't just kick up a fuss and refuse to get off the phone until they waived the fee.

I won't name the company, but they want you to just log on and save money...

No not the case at all. I used to work for the company that has the contract for both the Tallaght hospital and Saint James hospital and they were seen as a cash cow.

They would do ANYTHING that the hospitals wanted just to make sure that they held onto the contract.

Corbett court restaurant near chareville. Wife and i had sandwich and a wrap. 2 year old daughter had 2 sausages and toast. Kids meals are 6.95 with free toy. Waitress said toy was too small and unsuitable for our child. Fine i said not bothered at all. But when driving away saw that for the 2 sausages and toast we were charged 6.95.
Also a big sign outside said all day full Irish breakfast was 5.95.
Too tired and stupid to go back and complain.

I told them they had never sent me one but apparently you have to report that within a month of renewing (which is in their terms and conditions to be fair). I've since been told if you argue it enough they'll waive the charge, so I'll certainly do that if something like this happens again. 20 quid for a fancy sheet of paper and some ink!

I live in Ballyfermot. Local supermarket - can't remember the name - tried to charge me a 50c fee for topping up my LEAP card. I walked. Literally as didn't have the change for the bus and wasn't going to give these thieving cu*ts a red cent for a service I already paid a €5 deposit for. Entertained thoughts of reporting them to Dublin Bus HQ but after ranting at work about it my colleagues told me I'd probably just be told they can charge what they want.
