I prefer Tullamore Dew, it's nice and smooth. I don't know how anyone can drink a blended whisky, they're vile. I bought my Dad a bottle of Middleton Rare a couple of weeks ago for his 60th birthday.

It's probably to do with the high alcohol volume in it,and as I presume your in Ireland a lot of people can't just have the one and think you will go of your head quicker :-)

    nope

    whiskey 40% of 35ml =

    pint 4.5% of 568ml =

I always thought cider was the devils drink?

Whiskey has become very popular in my age group( mid to late 20's)

Even younger than that. It's become very popular from early 20s up. I for one love the stuff.

Probably because it's considered a hard, bad-ass drink.

And because many don't think it's very nice.

I guess I'm weird, I really don't like the taste of straight spirits. I just find them burny and offensive. I have no problem anyone else drinking them, and I'd often try a brandy or a whiskey if offered but I've never developed a taste for them though. A gin and tonic on the other hand? Mmmm.

Always drink Jameson on nights out these days, very nice neat or mixed with ginger ale and if ya want also with a slice of lime. Actually tried Jameson18 year old on a night out in town recently, absolutely amazing stuff. Powers is another one thats great neat. Not fond of Bushmills, Tullamore or any of the Scotch whisky Ive had so far though

I like Jameson and Powers, but I have a fondness for Paddy. It does the job without foostherin with aromas and heathers and all that peaty Scotch carry on.

Is that not whiskey for people who can't drink whiskey?

Prefer Black Bush or Bushmills ten year old myself.

It probably is but it's still nice.

If you drink it like it's supposed to be drunk, as in one or two...nice and slow, it's grand. But when your necking them back after 8 pints...bad news. I never understood why people want to get more drunk at the end of a session...you'll be in bed in an hour, why bother? Just wasting money and guaranteeing yourself a whopper hangover.

Yea I like Paddy for that reason too, dont find it as smooth as Jameson or Powers, but has a (very nice) strong kick to it :) Are there any aged/'premium' versions of Paddy (like Powers 12 year old, Jameson Black Barrel, etc)? Havent seen one

Not the 10 year old single malt. I didn't try the Middleton.

I find Paddy very watery,Jameson is a bit meh(a decent intro to whiskey though) so Powers and a pint of stout at the table is the bees knees- Though if I was having a glass at home in the late evening,a Green Spot,John Lane or Redbreast 12 is the way to do it.

Bought a bottle of Connemeara recently too-peat ahoy!!

OP I have only gotten that response when drinking whiskey in England and then it was mostly women who judged my choice. All my friends accept me as a whiskey drinker.

If you cant drink it straigh (like I cant), drink it like a proper auld Irish farmer.. with red lemonade

Because when you're supping pints you eventually hit a wall where the thought of yet another pint isn't that appealing so you move on to shorts.

I like a few glasses on the night out and it seems to be getting popular with my age group (early 20s) or atleast my group anyway..

I was never into vodka but whiskey just tastes much nicer. Of course just like every drink you shouldn't over do it, not sure why people are against it.

I think they all have their time and place and use :

Powers : great for hot whiskey
    Bushmills/Jameson : Irish coffee
Nice single malt : chillin by the fire with a bit of music
JD : cleaning stains of the driveway

Has anybody here tried Midleton Rare ? I'm half tempted to buy a bottle for myself for special occasions although I'm not a big whiskey drinker but would like to have it ' in stock '.

I just get so full of beer after 8 pints I just want something lighter, but still keeps me nice and buzzed.whiskey is perfect for that.
