I mentioned to a group of people that ''I'm having a bushmills tonight'' and it's met with a chorus of dissaproval and ''oh stay away from that its the devils drink'' and ''whiskey!!!! keep well away from that trust me''

Is it to do with a bad drink to get drunk on? because I only have the one or two neat in a glass. My wife says its probably because its easy to get addicted to like Vodka and creeps up on you and before you know it you're on it all the time.

Whiskey's a great drink, but a nice one neat is the only way ;) people who drink JD and Coke don't know what they're missing :D

    Bushmills? That's Protestant whiskey!

I think it was heavily associated with alcoholism in the past, more so than beer and other drinks, so that's probably the reason some may disapprove.

I know some people who have that attitude towards spirits for some reason, despite regularly binging on beer themselves. Stupid.

JD ain't that nice neat. Bush or Jamesons are far superior.

What's ever weirder is that if a woman asked for a whiskey she get queer looks, well back in my day they did.

JD is horrid neat or with a mixer, which is why I said a nice one neat, as in a nice whiskey ;)

Thats just the old "stay away from the top shelf" bull****. The people saying it think it makes them look wise. While its not a good idea to sink two bottles of Jameson on a daily basis, a short or two needn't cause panic.
And if you must mix anything with the whiskey - nothing other than water. And no ice. Ice is a sin.

I have a bottle of the new Bush stuff with honey in it - it's really tasty. Recommend people try it if they see it in a shop.

Bushmills? Nah... now, if it was Jameson on offer, or a nice Scotch, I'd be tempted.

I like my whiskey like I like my women.

With an aroma of turf. :)

Is that not whiskey for people who can't drink whiskey?

Prefer Black Bush or Bushmills ten year old myself.

It's probably to do with the high alcohol volume in it,and as I presume your in Ireland a lot of people can't just have the one and think you will go of your head quicker :-)

I always thought cider was the devils drink?

Whiskey has become very popular in my age group( mid to late 20's)

Cant put too much water if any in bushmills as it is too light a whiskey for that carry on. One ever so tiny drop may do in order to release some of the aromas more but any more than that and sure ya might as well put it down the sink and start again. In fact, a lot of irish whiskeys are light and don't suit the water.

The issue is people drink a stupid quantity of something, or hear of someone drinking a stupid quantity of something only to do something incredibly ridiculous. They then blame that drink as the cause. They would have done the same shít without it IMO.

The only stuff I generally dont drink when it comes to alcohol is clear spirits, because in general I just don't like the feel of'em. I've had the odd nice vodka or gin. But that's it. I don't not drink Vodka because "it makes me go nuts."

Whiskey cause some people to get angry, its a strange drink. Though the only think I drink.

But on bushmills, this was probably why you got the reaction you did :)

Iv always drank spirits. Was never into beer. Most when you explain you never liked beer and it's all you ever drink they can see the point

I can't stand that purest bull. I'll drink any spirit whatever way I like it. Because that's the way I like it.
