I was out shopping today in town (lucky me with my civil liberties an all) and we happened to walk past the protest. There seemed to be a lot of support and I admire anyone willing to give up their Saturday to support this protest. I hope however small this gesture was in the grand scheme of things, that it was worthwhile. Well done to anyone who attended. Fair play.

My facebook updates lately have all been pro palestine. Part due to what I have been learning here, part due to being involved in a local peace project spreading peace and equailty where it can.

But in the last few days i I notice my facebook is giving me suggested posts and they are all pro Israeli.

    Anyone else this happening to?

This afternoon was f*cking epic, massive thanks to everyone who came out. As I said to one fellow protester, it's when an Irish person is willing to remain outside in the rain that you know they truly care about something ;)

Seriously though, I asked several Gardai and 10,000 seemed to be the general estimate. At one point the protest rounded the corner of Merrion Square, I was up at the front and I slipped back and ran down Kildare St hoping to get a photo of the end, was utterly astonished upon reaching Nassau St to see that the protest extended all the way down and around into College Green, and apparently beyond. It was truly gigantic.

Some very good speakers as well. That (eventual) interview with the Gazan doctor was unbelievably harrowing, but something everyone present needed to hear.

I sincerely hope that the inhabitants of the embassy were rattled considerably by the size of the demonstration, and likewise for our spineless politicians who refuse to take even the small action of voting in favour of an inquiry at the UN. Absolutely shameful.

Did any see that old guy at the corner of Nassau and Kildare street shouting at the marchers "Long live Israel" and giving us the finger? He had a very thick Israeli accent, was wearing a red t-shirt. Don't know why he was trying to provoke a peaceful protest.

Loads of Palestinian flags in Croke Park today too.
People are angry and concerned about this issue.

There were quite a few Palestinian flags in the Dundalk section at the Cork City Dundalk game last week

So we now agree pressurized oxygen cylinders as commonly found in hospitals across the globe are potentially explosive.
Why were you so insistent on telling us about non-pressurized free floating oxygen then as a matter of interest?

Forgive me, but did I ever deny that they were? I expressed strong doubt that the secondary explosions in the video were commensurate with those of pressurised tanks.
All it does it takes us away from the psychotic actions of those who target and fire at a hospital.

Well, apparently Hamas thought Palestine had no need for the hospital, or they wouldn't have used it and turned it into a target.

Do you ever apportion blame to the person or entity doing the action rather than the victim?

What do you think Palestinian people in Gaza should do to protect themselves?

So Israel's Ministry of Defence offices in the centre of Tel Aviv makes the civilian population of TA fair game?

No, you went off on an irrelevant tangent about oxygen itself not being an explosive, as if pressurized medical gas cylinders do not explode. A bit like earlier when you talked about the Irish soldiers involved in the UN Congo mission while neglecting to mention the UN Lebanon mission where Irish soldiers were murdered both directly by the IDF and by IDF backed militia.
The most charitable thing I can say here is that you are incapable of bringing anything relevant to these discussions.
Well, apparently Hamas thought Palestine had no need for the hospital, or they wouldn't have used it and turned it into a target.
    And true colors are shown.
Did Hamas also decide clearly marked UN shelters with babies sleeping in them were also not needed?

Bohs have one up in Dalymount Park on the Tramway end too. The movement is reaching the common man now, people are discussing it that would generally have little or no interest in current affairs or politics.

Anyone with a basic knowledge of Irish history under English rule already has an understanding of what the Palestinians are going through and you cannot help but have sympathy for them.

Well, apparently Hamas thought Palestine had no need for the hospital, or they wouldn't have used it and turned it into a target.

The point has to be made that the hospitals, schools,UN shelters etc that were hit were not full of hamas fighters, they were instead full of innocent civilians, men women and children just trying to survive the onslaught.

The facts on the ground back up the assertion that this is not a war against Hamas but a war against the population of Gaza who happen to live on a peice of land that the apartheid zionist regime want to colonise and genocide seems to be their chosen method of gaining possession of this land.

Look at the facts, not the propaganda.

    LOL @ Terrorist again.
Wanna have another stab at defining the word, or will you finally admit you haven't a clue? The big scary T word might cause an emotional logic bypass on 4 year olds and the Sean Hannity fanclub but it's just a worthless I-don't-like-them label to sensible adults.

Who is this awful woman speaking at the protest at Pembroke street?

2 minutes in and she's already defended Hamas and spouted out a rape analogy.

The crowd are lapping it up.

She didn't defend Hamas and the rape analogy was perfectly valid as would any analogy involving asking a crime victim why they fought back against someone who was committing a crime against them.

What Hamas does is despicable, but they do it because of Israel's crimes against them, so in many people's eyes Israel bears the ultimate responsibility. Just like how in many people's eyes if a junkie attacks someone with a syringe and gets the sh!t kicked out of them by the person they tried to stab, most people will tell the junkie that it was their own fault - even if the person kicking the sh!t out of them was wrong to do so, that doesn't mean anyone has to have sympathy with the junkie for bringing it on himself.

Well, apparently Hamas thought Palestine had no need for the hospital, or they wouldn't have used it and turned it into a target.

Hamas are scum. Israel is held up by the West as not being scum, and yet their actions show that they are just as scum-ish as Hamas. The issue is the double standard. Hamas was wrong to use a hospital for rocket launches and Israel was wrong to shell the hospital, but only one of those sides is being condemned by the US.

The results of the worlds "most moral army" latest activities

"In Israel's latest military operation in the Gaza Strip, dubbed Operation Protective Edge, many homes were bombed with residents inside, killing several family members together.
The following infographic details members of families killed in 36 incidents where civilian homes were bombed or shelled. In these incidents, 251 people were killed, including 55 women, 114 minors, and 11 people over the age of 60. Roll the mouse over the houses for more details."

Are there any numbers from either side as to how many Hamas soldiers are actually being killed? We could average the Hamas/IDF published number...

Well if Hamas wanted to protect the Palestinian people they wouldn't have up a command bunker in Shifa Hospital; knowing that Israel would inevitably target it.

Obviously protecting their own people is not their priority.
