    Hi,

My Macbook died recently. It was diagnosed with a faulty HD. No chance to do a backup unfortunatly.
So, I bought a new 2.5" hard drive and a usb enclosure so i could download the OSx Mavericks installer and boot from the new HD.

But i only have access to a windows7 laptop. Is there anyway i can format the new HD to the apple format and copy the installer from the laptop to the HD?

    Cheers.

You should be able to just stick in a new disk and the installer will launch disk utility and let you format the drive. Which Mac is it? AFAIK the 2010 onwards models support Internet Recovery.

It's too late now but you should really manage a suitable backup solution. TimeMachine is pretty easy to use.
