There a number of posters on boards.ie who have served in the military and the message that is clear from them is that the media have this unrealistic expectation of some utopian clean war where no innocent bystander should get killed because of todays technology. Well, war is not a video game and its certainly not perfect not matter what people on Facebook or on the News will tell you. With so many bombs dropped on Gaza the past few weeks its a wonder how more have not died if we are being honest but don't let objectivity get in the way of a mind made up to wag the finger.

In a case where the only two options are to bomb a civilian hospital or send in a ground force with a high casualty rate, the only morally defensible decision is to send in the troops. Unfortunately that is the role of a soldier.

But of course, Israel are not in that either/or situation. Their iron dome allows for them to retreat behind their borders in safety. That would mean giving up their illegal settlements and inhumane siege but that in itself would only lead to more peace.

It was a joke.

You know, because Israel ignores the UN resolutions on partition plans, have illegal settlements, kills civilians, protected from having to answer for its crimes and its defenders call any attempt to highlight them all anti Israeli sentiment. Therefore international law or the UN resolutions in relation to what is Palestine and what is Israel could be written off as anti Israel sentiment by the UN. And I'm sure it has on many occasions.
