Question about Samsung SMT-G7400

My uncle has had digital TV installed by UPC.

He has been given a Samsung SMT-G7400 set top box.

When browsing through the manual I noticed that there were two usb ports on the back of
    the box.

My question, is it possible to connect a usb hdd or memory stick containing movies or music
to the box via these ports as I could with a media player?

If not then why are the ports there? Do UPC plan to allow such features in the future?

Anything of possible use or interest is disabled.

I note that in the US, WD are selling drives that specifically set up to expand the capacity of your STB. Maybe some day in the future.
