My dogs a dope. Bought a house, slept outside it when it rained. Made a massive shelter with its food and water, sleeps outside it. Heavy rain, my dog is against the door rather than being in its warm sheltered house.

You should try locking your dog inside the shelter for a few hours, will get used to it then probably, have you tried this?

I don't have a dog, but if I did, it wouldn't be one of them yappy little things that need to be kept inside all the time. It would be a bigger dog, and would have a mixture of indoors and outdoors life, with a really decent dog-house.

big dogs can be yappy too.

I love my dog to bits. She sleeps in the house at night but I couldn't have an animal upstairs and certainly not in bed with me.
She is a very well looked after doggy and is spotless but for me it just feels kind of unhygienic to have an animal in bed

Our dog, a Westie, has her own little bed inside in her home.

Depends on the dog's breed, age and the weather.

We had Shepherds. They are big dogs and they slept outside in a massive dog house. They have big coats and are big dogs so it's fine to leave them outside. In November, December and January though, they slept inside.

Since our last shepherd died, we have a collie pup. He's smaller and will probably sleep inside even when he's fully grown.

    Nope…

My guy (cocker spaniel) sleeps in a very comfy bed, beside the radiator (its off during the warm months) in the kitchen, with access to the living room at night time and has done for the past 9 years.

There are many reasons for this:
    1. He is very much part of our family, so he belongs with his family.
    2. Dogs are social creatures they don’t like being alone in the back garden, all the want is to be part of a family and be with “their” humans.
    3. We do have a lovely kennel for him in the back garden but give him a choice and he’d rather be indoors.
    4. If he were outside load noises would wake him and no doubt he’d start barking, thus annoying the neighbours and myself if im honest. So no one (himself included) would get a good night sleep if he were to sleep outside.
    5. Lots of dogs are being “robbed” from back gardens day and night time by scumbags, so im not putting him at risk of getting robbed and god knows what would happen to him.
    6. The risk of poison being thrown over the wall (probably being OTT here) but it’s still a possibility.
    7. either way Irish weather isn’t the nicest and I don’t care how “nice” a kennel is ,sleeping outside in the lashing rain, wind and cold weather isn’t nice, and there’s no way my guy would be happy with it.

I don’t believe dogs “belong” outside, it all depends on the breed, individual dog, property etc., it’s not for me, I will always have house dogs, they are and always will be part of my family and no family member will be dumped in the back garden like a garden decoration.

OP, I would report your night for neglect – dogs don’t have a voice they rely on us humans to stand up for them.

My dog stays outside at night in her kennel during the summer when the weather is good, she prefers it... during the winter and when its raining she sleeps inside.

What is wrong with people that have the dog in the bed with them?

Nope, she's a complete baby though.

Just so ye know how much of a baby she is - I discovered last night that I inadvertently thought her how to kiss on command. She's such a waste of a clever dog because of us :o :pac:

Sammy sleeps on her own duvet in landing outside our bedroom door. She has orders to repel any home invasion or zombie attack - quietly:D

my dogs have a run, and a kennel, the door is always shut, it has to be opened with the use of a paw, and they can do it no problem . they come in every night or if weather is really bad during day. They have breakfast with us in morning and after their walks their allowed to have full access to the full grounds to interact with kids.

We have 3 neighbours who never let their dogs in , never walk them , i can tell you now since they got dogs i never saw them once. I can hear them ok. Gets me sooooo mad . To make it worse there all labs!!!!!!!

The dog would stop talking to me if I left him outside, he's a hoor for sulking. Anyway, I'm so soft, I'd nearly have the calves inside, never mind the dog.

Our 3 have always been indoors at night.

I let them out last thing about 10.30pm & we are all up at 6am to let out the hens.

They have a large house in the garden, but 11 y/o greyhound prefers to sunbathe or lay on her bed, the 6 y/o spaniel setter mix does not mind the dog house & finally uses it if it's raining, took a while though, lastly our terrier mix hates hates the dog house.

We took in a dog when our neighbour died suddenly, he was always an outdoor farm dog, I used to leave for work at 5.30am and it was so sad watching him trying to get up in the morning, he would limp for a while before he got warmed up. We made him an indoor bed & he moved in, never limped again, and he lived 15 months after his owner did, cancer got him in the end.

But he got so used to being in, there were mornings he would get his business over so quick and rush back in.

Nope. Mine stays in her bed in the kitchen and there is never a peep out of her unless she desperately wants to go out for a wee.
I don't see a problem with them staying outside if they have proper shelter and access to water. Some dogs prefer being outside, some prefer being in.

Nope, as he has just had both his eyes removed and so he's a little nervous now.

He'd get robbed if you left him outside.

You could get him to leave his wallet inside, and collect it next morning.

Our collie is outside most of the day but sleeps in the house. He guards the house for us and he loves the company. My little rescue terrier sleeps in a shed attached to the house, he's not fully house trained yet and the two dogs make so much noise when they play together that we don't have him in the house overnight. New kitten sleeps in another shed:-)

My dogs sleep "outside". They have their own insulated shed and they can come and go as they please. They have everything they need. I don't see the point in keeping them inside. My cats are fully indoor though. I guess it just depends on the person. My neighbours used to have a dog that they kept outside all night but he had no shelter which is pretty harsh imo.

Get your revenge and get your own dog. put him over the fence into the neighbours garden and let him bark all night. See how he likes it...

Joking aside my dog sleeps in the house. If he slept in the dog house I would have nowhere to sleep..

Have a working Springer. Sleeps inside by choice. Loves be close to the family and still works a dream. Had 2 collies before. Pets non working. Rathered outside. I let them choose to be honest. Don't force them because x says they should be inside or outside. Works fine for me and the dog. Granny is a different story. She tries to get in so we had to chain her. Too hard to house train.

Just letting you know that brocoli can actually be poisonous for dogs. I do t give mine onions, brocoli or chocolate.
Grapes and tomatoes are another danger. Given how long we and dogs have been hanging out together it's amazing to me how so many human foods can be so bad for them. Then again compared to their wild cousins the wolf, dogs can eat many more food items by comparison. Veggies can be good for dogs, but if you offered a veggie meal to a wolf even if prime steak was included they'd be looking at you askance; "Thanks head, but can you keep the green crap away from my food in future. just sayin like". Feed a wolf pedigree dry food and you'd have explosive diarrhoea all over the place and a very pissed off wolf who'd be looking at you as their next meal. :D

All my dogs have been house dogs. They liked their comfort. At least at night or if the weather was shíte. More to the point, as others have pointed out, they needed their family. If I had been living in the garden or the shed so would they have. Dogs are extremely family orientated. It's their primal nature. The so called "pack" is a family unit. That goes for wild dogs too. A wolf "pack" is a family. Mammy and daddy and the kids. Eff all to do with the "alpha" nonsense. The so called alpha male and female are the mammy and daddy and the rest are their kids. When the kids grow up, they leave the family and set up their own. Pretty much as people do.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Ours slept inside, but was always kept in the utility room at night and was let out in the morning when heading to work.

I love dogs, no problem with them lying on top of me when watching tv or anything like that but I would never have the dog sleep in a bedroom never mind sleep in the bed beside us.

Leaving the dog outside to sleep is obviously perfectly fine so long as there's somewhere sheltered for it. Some dogs are more suited to being inside than others - I wouldn't want a breed that's prone to excessive shedding running around the house.

Most Friday evenings I'll share a bottle of whiskey with my dog, Horndog. The vet says it's not good for him so I only give three or four measures while I watch The Late Late. Little fella's such a lightweight, getting sick everywhere and passing out on the stairs. Then again, they do say some pets begin to resemble their owners! :D

"Ohh noo, I keep my dog outside, he prefers it by far".. = "Fcuked if I'm messing up my cosy life for a fecking mutt".

Ours sleep inside. They'd be offended and frankly reckon I'd lost the plot if I asked them to do otherwise.
