    I was curious why my Aldi Ardagh cheese had a 'UK' stamp on the back (yes I know the story about last place processed etc...) but an Irish tricolour on the front along with the 'Produced in Ireland' piece on the front.

    So I phoned Aldi. Guess what? They couldn't tell me where it was made except to repeat several times ' It's produced in Ireland'.

    Anyway it took the Food Safety Authority about a week to come back and say it is to the best of their knowledge made in Limerick.

    3 questions (aimed at Aldi)

    1. Why not say 'Made in the Republic of Ireland' ?
    2. Why do you not allow your customer service staff access to this information?
    3. How can it be cheaper to send cheese made in The Republic to the UK (Staffs?) to be packed and then sent back to Ireland for sale?

    I'd love to see Aldi respond to this on boards.

    I'm not Aldi, but I am a bit german, cheap and all over the place - so here's my reply:

    Dear Consumer, 1; it's made in Ireland, like we said, so stfu and eat it. 2:that would assume we actually care about stuff like this, 3: UK boxes are cheaper and we ship it by the tonne so it pays, if it didn't, we wouldn't.

    I always mix the two of them up so it's not just the op. I'm also waiting to hear back from McDonald's about why the sell french fries instead of Irish fries.

    A lot of cheese is packaged in Wales,including those with Wexford and Dublin in the pack.

    I think Cracker Barrell or one of them is made in Ireland and packaged in Belgium before you buy it in Ireland

    €€€I go the same when I asked lidl why british milk was being passed off as Irish. Still waiting for a reply two years after pointing out 'uk-ec' on the veterinary stamp means that britiah milk is not Irish
