Can I just get confirmation on where to collect your Bus Leapcard ONLINE topup. I have topped up a few times and then (as per instructions) gone to my local shop and asked for them to "check the balance". Each time, the cashier has asked how much I want to top up by. And I say...no I have topped up online, I just want to collect my credit. This has resulted in huge confusion. Each time, I was told there is no need to check at the shop??

(plus, my last top up from wednesday, hadnt arrived onto my card last night when i got my "balance checked", which just added to the confusion)

So? Top up online...then give it a day or two...go to a shop and ask them to check your balance (ignore what they say) and then get your bus?? is that the jist of it??
(In theorey, i could just topup in the shop, but i just read on another thread that they are adding in surcharges now!!!)

As far as I am aware, after you top up online, you have to wait for the credit to go through the system, then you have to present your card to a physical reader. Either in a shop or on a platform somewhere.

Now if you walk into a shop that sells the credit, and ask them to apply the credit, well, why would they? You are effectively asking them to do it for free!

This is the stupid scenerio we currently have....

    Yes, that's exactly it.

Only one shop seems to be doing that so far, the rest are fine.

There is no bus top-up collection option. Only Rail, Luas or Payzone. When collecting from a Payzone agent, you need them to check the card balance. Given that you aren't buying anything, some agents are reluctant to do this. :)

Just say you want to check your balance.

By the cashier? That is a lack of training.

It takes 24-48 hours to go through. What collection option did you select? Payzone? If so, follow the procedure above. If it isn't collected within 7 days, it will be refunded to your bank / credit card account.

It would seem this is not permitted.

It's been changed to 21 days. They probably haven't gotten around to updating that on the site yet though.

It states 21 days in the terms and conditions

Does this also apply to the new auto top-up? Do Dublin Bus validators recognise if you have your leapcard setup to auto top-up?

    Yes,they do.

Auto Top-Up is a Totally different beast to On-Line Top-Up,and does not involve any issues re loading the amount.

This is because the amount and Direct Debit is already pre-arranged and sit's On The Leapcard awaiting the < €10 trigger.

Thanks. Good to know that's an option at least.
