People are picking Rooney because it's clear now that he will play up front.

Plus there's a strong chance that RVP may be rested GW1. He's sitting out all of the pre-season tour, I think, and perhaps a little longer?

So would people be more inclined now to picky rooney over RVP? Thinking of going that way myself and using the 2m to upgrade barkley to Cesc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,094 ✭✭✭SpaceCowb0y

I'd get rooney in for dzeko and downgrade pelle to one of the 6 million lads and Luis to Enrique or Davies. I'd keep sturridge he has scored goals consistently for 18 months with or without suarez in the team. If sturridge gets a couple pre season teams around here will start to get him in. Very few teams had rooney until he scored a couple against galaxy. I think you have to go with your gut instinct it's very easy to be sucked into a template team which inevitably develops on the likes of here and ffs. Most teams are utd defender, chelsea defender ,debuchy, ramsey or sanchez, hazard or fab, rooney it used to be Rvp.

That's what I've been thinking! I think a lot of folks are writing Liverpool off now Suarez is gone but Sturridge and Liverpool as a whole showed they are well able to score goals without him too. I reckon i will stick with him but I'm probably biased being a Liverpool fan and I know from lessons learned the hard way you can't play this game with your heart.

I fully agree, that defence is poor and i know it. have been messing about a bit and taken on board what yourself and Iusedtolikebusts have said and come up with this. Not sure who to go with from the £6m club up front though, I've Long in for now but it's not set in stone by any account. Nobody in that price bracket really screams out "sign me up" ha!:pac:

You need someone from City in that team. Silva is a must imo.

This is becoming more stress than fun, i should have waited until the week before things kicked off to start tinkering like last season :o

The only way to fit Silva in would be to downgrade Luis for someone in the 5mil bracket from which i don't see too many good options and my defence is weak enough as it is!

There's a huge amount of choice in the £6m bracket. Ings and Austin from the newly promoted clubs, and Wickham from Sunderland. Even Fletcher at Sunderland (£5.5m) and Bent at Villa (£5.5m) are worth considering if you have your heart set on Sturridge. I was going to ask if you were a Pool fan but didn't want to come across wrong :) You should never let club loyalty sway your decision though.

Don't worry about 'cover' from the big clubs, it doesn't exist.

It should be worth it I reckon. Everything City do goes through that little magician one way or another. Plenty of goals and assists in him too. With such a potent attack last season, not cashing in now may come back to haunt you if the prices start to rise early on!

I had him during the good spell last season but don't let the good spell distract you from long barren spells last season.

Also Nasri is fresher and had no We behind him, 0.5 cheaper as well, wouldn't put anyone off him.

and more importantly because he has scored 4 goals in 2 games . I was just pointing out there is a template team developing and people that think outside the box e.g sturridge will sometimes change their mind due to what the pack are going with. Rooney has been in my team since day 1 as I felt he was a better option starting off with than rvp. I agree with rory C never let who you support or have a dislike for cloud your judgement when selecting FF players. For me the facts are sturridge has been the most consistent goalscorer(bar suarez) in the PL over his 18 months at liverpool. For that reason Im going with sturridge and Rooney.

Surely Suarez not being there any more has to factor into the decision?

I didnt have sturridge in my initial draft so I checked back on the stats when suarez missed games through suspension. So liverpool without suarez in 9 league games picked up 20 pts and sturridge scored 9 goals in 9 games. Obviously its a small enough sample size and maybe the fixtures they had in those 9 games arent reflective of what will happen over the course of the season however you could balance that by saying the signings they have made should give them a stronger team than they had in the 9 previous games without suarez.

Over the course of the season Liverpool scored 109 goals in all competitions, Suarez scored 31 leaving 78 goals of which Sturridge scored 22 all in the league!

Every time I read a frickin' football article I end up changing my team!

Latest offering, I don't think it looks too shoddy if I do say so myself:

    Mannone

    Debuchy--Terry--Shaw
    Sigurdsson--Ramsey--Fábregas--Nasri--Eriksen-
    Rooney
    Dzeko

    Krul--Targett--Cameron--Bent

    Raters guna rate?:D

Wanted to play a 3-5-2 with two top quality strikers so had to go cheap on defence. Also worried three united players are overkill.

    Gk de gea elliot
Def terry debuchy ward wisdom targett
Mid mata silva de jong eriksen sigurdsson
    Fwd rooney costa Fletcher

First attempt and I think it needs to be the last for a week or two:

    De Gea
    Terry, Dawson, Debuchy
    Mata, Fabregas, Silva, Ozil, Sigurdsson
    Rooney, Giroud

    Subs: Myhill, Bruce, Dummett, Zamora

Who knows what the final selection will look like, but not exactly blown away by my bench at present

    Really nice team.

I'd consider Davies instead of Dawson for Spurs (don't think Dawson is guaranteed to start).

With Saints selling so many players and signing so few he should be. I expect him to replace Shaw.

I'd acquire Matt Targett for your bench :)

I haven't been tinkering too much because there's still so much time to take into account. Here's my latest offering though:

    Mannone
    Debuchy Terry Shaw
    Hazard Sanchez Siggy Mata
    Dzeko Rooney Jelavic

    Subs: Krul, Targett, Widsom, Albrighton

    Changes from last draft are:

    Ramsey to Sanchez
    Eriksen to Siggy
    Wickham to Dzeko
    Silva to Mata

I think that team has good balance to it. 3 United purely because of their nice start. One of either Mata or Rooney will be out. I fancy Shaw to do well.

Re Dzeko, Aguero will struggle to be fit for the season start and Dzeko can score against anyone. He's a great finisher IMO.

I've pretty much decided on the core of my team. Solid but unspectacular and I think I have good cover from all the bigger clubs bar Liverpool. I would like to have Sturridge in there but just can't free up the cash. He may replace Rooney after a few weeks.

Your selection of Dawson should attract another of our ramsey brigade posters out of his fox hole anyway.

Right here's my second draft! :

    Manone
    Jageilka Flanagan oshea
    Yaya Ramsey mata albrighton Barkley
    Diego Costa Rooney

    Subs: krul, Wilson, Simpson, abonglahor

Who'll play more in defence? Cameron, Target or Wisdom?

Who is a good cheap striker, abonglahor, fletcher, long, jelavic, Valencia?

Barkley, Henderson or Taarabt in midfield?

Just some of my dilemmas :)!! (P.s. Sorry for any spelling mistakes I'm on me phone!)

    Quick one.

    A) Hazard + De Jong

    Or

    B) Fabregas + Eriksen

    A

Newcastle have a great start so De Jong will score points - I expect Spurs to be wildly inconsistant as always so you'll get better bets with De Jong than Eriksen

Having this exact dilemma now too. I'm leaning towards A at the moment.

I have to say I don't understand the de Jong love. He has been a professional for 12 years and he has scored 16 league goals in all that time. He will also be a yellow / red card magnet.

    Each to their own.

It's Siem de Jong we're talking about not Nigel...
