Best Wireless Access Point (Repeater) to work with Eircom ZyXEL F1000

Apologies in advance if this was answered previously - I searched and couldnt find it.

Simple Scenario: Old house, very thick walls.

Eircom eFibre installed with F1000 router on ground floor.

Need very good WiFi on First floor and current signal is very weak.

Ethernet (Cat 6) cable already in place from Ground floor to First floor. Plan is to put a WiFi Wireless Access point on the first floor, linked via ethernet to the router on the ground floor,

What is the best Wireless Access Point (repeater - not an extender and not a powerline adapter) to purchase, to work seemlessly with the F1000 ? Any experience based recommendations - happy to buy one and not use some old kit. Any benefit in getting an AC model ?

A repeater isnt what you want, they take input over wireless and then retransmit.

You want an AP. Fed by ethernet like youve said. Buy a decent AP, set it to the same SSID and key, but a different channel (Set the F1000 to a fixed channel too), connect the cable and away you go.

AC is good for future proofing but none of your devices likely support it right now.

Thanks for the response and sorry about the terminology confusion - its a bit of a minefield.

I'm hoping that somebody can say to me that they have a specific Access Point that definitly works, over a long period, with the F1000 - this is for a friend who doesn't have alot of patience and I dont want to have to tinker or mess with it, and it was to be stable and "stay-up"

Do you have an old Eircom router / modem? (like the d1000). If so, connect to it on your PC, and configure it for bridge mode. Disconnect from PC.

Then:

1. Connect ethernet to new F1000 (on ground floor).

2. Connect the ethernet cable (on first floor) to one of the ethernet ports on old router, and connect your device(s)to old routers wireless.

You can leave it as its old SSID / password as is, or manually change them to be the same as F1000.
