    Does anybody know anywhere in Ireland that can chemical dip a MK2 escort shell as all company's I find seem to be in the UK?

    As far as I know there are no company's in Ireland with a set up big enough to dip a whole car, I looked myself a couple of years ago and a friend looked last year to no avail.

    There are no companies here that can do a shell. You have to go across the water I'm afraid. There is one that does 'e coating' as well and seems to be well worth it. Its all quite expensive.

    Has there not been a turn against chemical dipping in recent times? all sorts of gunge left in cavities and seams to cause problems down the line..

    Haven't heard that but even if you were to decide to bite the bullet and do it it would still involve at least two trips across the pond because they strip first and then give it back to you to allow you to make any repairs and then they give it the e coat once it has been done. Unless of course you want to pay a UK company to do the welding for you.

    I had a chassis dipped and e-coated (I lived in Scotland at the time) by Surface Processing in Dudley. It was a seperate chassis job from a 1948 Alvis. They damaged it slightly by lifting it with the outriggers, but the stripping and coating is still good 6 years later.

    SPL in Durham do seem to be the go to crowd at the minute. Its certantly not cheap but anyone ive seen thats gone through the process seems preety happy with the outcome and Im half considering it at some point

    not enough business in ireland to allow for this to happen, all in inc. your expenses back n forth to uk you wont have much change left from €4k, all that would be excluding labour and welding etc......

    there was a story of a gullwing merc done a few years back n the car rotted from the inside out, more aless fell apart n was done through chemical dipping, the owner sued the company and won his case but was down a very rare car

    Nobody does chemical stripping or cataphoretic coating in Ireland at these sizes (South and North). These guys in the UK have good reviews in the classic scene: https://www.surfaceprocessing.co.uk/

    Personally, I've used these folks in Germany before:

    Certainly no "gunk" left anywhere (inspected with a borescope cam), just perfectly clean mild steel.
