If you could find out the exact date and time of your death, would you?

Yes, I'm watching "The Bucket List" starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. In the early parts of the film Mr. Freeman refers to a survey where 96% of the participants said they would prefer not to know, with the remainder choosing to find out.

Personally, I'd choose to find out as I think it'd be cool.

I've thought about this myself, comparing knowing you're going to die versus not knowing. I think no I'd rather not. Some people would take it ok, and make sure they fulfilled all their ambitions and dreams, whereas I don't have any ambitions or dreams so I think I would just hit a severe depression. My mum was told when she was terminal and didn't take it like others seem to. I can't imagine not being angry at the world.

Dont be so hard on yourself Of course you have ambitions and dreams, however small, they are yours.

I dream of owning/living in a bungalow by the sea on the west coast of ireland. Not major to some, but its my dream :)

It would freak you out like a clock counting down to doomsday.

    Then again....

If this was 100% accurate, that means you could survive everything else in life

Yes - would particularly want to know if I only have a few months left.

    Yes absolutely.

Purely because I have a bit of a bucket list myself and if I thought I was going to go in a week I would quit my punk job empty my savings and go all out on it.

I'd want to die happy not going out knowing I jnew when it was gonna happy and not making some of my dreams or aspirations come through.

There'd be no fear of it and you could prepare and make your peace with it and go calmly.

Also you could make time for your family and friends and make it easier on them too, say your goodbyes and make amens with people.

Scratch all that.... I'd do this too ha ha ha -->

No way, what a horrible thing to know. A constant countdown to your death. Imagine it was much sooner than you hoped, and there was nothing you could do about it. You would be angry, depressed....no thanks!

I reckon that this would be the general reason wouldn't want to know but I thiink it would actually be the opposite if you knew, clarity and calm knowing. I mean everyone knows they're gonna die some day. So why not know when. give you some closure and let you enjoy the days you have left to their most potential

    No.

I think 'not knowing' makes life so much nicer.. we should spend every day as if it's our last anyway.

But realistically how many people actually do that. I know most people get up go to work then either drink or do feck all at the weekends as a result of being tired from work.

Nobody has a pre-determined date of death. Everyone can take multiple steps to increase their life. Don't smoke, drive safely, eat healthily, avoid dangerous situations. But then there's the old saying. You could be knocked down by a bus tomorrow. None of us know when we'll die but we know we will and f*ck me, life is soooo short. I often think back to certain events that don't seem that long ago and realise that was 7 years ago. A year passes in the blink of an eye. I know it's a cliche but do everything you want to do in life and just remember-nearly everything is temporary including your time on earth.

    Of course I would!

Think about it this way: You would never have to fear death as something that could sneak up on you. You know when it's coming.

You could be absolutely fearless. You could smoke all you want, drink all you want; you could suspend yourself out of a helicopter with nothing but a frayed rope to hang onto! All safe in the knowledge that this day will not be the day you die!

I'd find out. Just so, out of sheer, unbridled spite, I could take my own life an hour or so beforehand:D
