If you drive it well it's not a hard course to score on. All the greens except the 14th are pretty flat and easy to read. Being on the fairway is key to playing well in Gowran if you are in trouble off the tee you will drop at least one shot. Don't need driver on the 12th par 5 and if you have a good score going a 7 iron short of the green on 16 is a good safe shot. Enjoy.

Thanks yettie. Good to know. The driver's been getting me in terrible trouble lately :( My new long iron/hybrid type thing may be getting used off the tees instead. I'll hit the range and blast off a few tonight and see how it goes.

If you are playing from the green (society) tees I would advise you not to use driver on any hole from 7-16. Its short from the greens but very tight off the tee...

I wore my Greystones top today in honour of our clubman playing in the British Open this week, (Well Dunne Paul) and in the hope it would bring me some luck, but despite a decent round, I fell just short of the winners circle due to a few silly mistakes

    42 won spacesoyote
    41 second ssbob
41 third regan Ivan (+1 gross)

i had 37 alongside Ballyk, we had a good battle as he also finished with 37, i beat him on the last 6! Roadrunner made up our three ball and he was on fire with 20 points through 9, but fell apart a bit on back 9. thanks again for a good bit of craic guys,

course is lovely, good nick, but slower greens than i'm used to. No excuse though for my 3 three putts and one 4!!!!! putt. i think my putter alignment is off :)

my driver was on fire though and the tight fairways didn't bother me at all, but the new fandango stuff they build these days.... screw for changing face angle came loose so i had to hit 3 wood the last few holes... otherwise i would have fancied the LD... I was hitting it so well. I was between a 9 and 8 iron for my second shot on the par 5 8th...went with 8 and duly made a dogs dinner of it!!!

have been looking forward to Gowran for a while now so was great to finally play it and she lived up to her rep. some great holes , and even the ones inside the track aren't at all bad.

now just waiting to see what kind of Ryder jug points I picked up

Back home after another great boards day out.

Went out with the intention of getting myself into the Ryder jug mix & managed to follow through on it. 42 points today, 79 strokes (the sub 80 drought a distant memory now :D )

Enough to pip ssbob & reganovski (i think) by a stroke to win the prize.

A very nice course, almost a perfect society course to my mind. Not too long, cut back rough, but enough to make you think about how you're planning to play a hole.

Had the pleasure of Charlie & thebigeasy for the round. A few loose drives & a couple of unlucky lipped out putts were really all the difference between them & me today. Bigeasy hits irons like a single digit golfer, beautiful strikes that check up nicely, charlie could do with hitting that 5 iron more off the tee, you were pinging them down the centre when you switched from driver

    11 Pars
    6 Bogeys
    1 double

Thanks again to the the lads for organising, always a great way to spend an afternoon

38 points for me today . Fell apart on the back 9 after having 23 on the front. A very nice course and a great day for it with the rain stopping as we walked to the first. Nice to get closest the pin and more points towards qualifying for the Ryder jug . Thanks to tony and hole in one for the Craic during the round. Thanks to the lads for organising a great day out aswell .

Well Done on the Win Space. Great scoring just shaded it from the other good scores.

Nice track but gutted I had one of my worst days in a while.

Thanks to Tiger and Bobster for the good company throughout the day.

Course very well set up.Well done to all the winners.Had an up and down round..scores went up and the ball wouldnt go down.Ended up with 32 points .Thanks to Macker and Tiger for the good company and craic.Shot of the day for me was a toss up between Tigers 7 iron on the par 3 13th i think to within 3 feet of the hole and Mackers shot out of the lake at the 9th..at least the water cooled him down.Tiger is surely the Son of God after he made one of his shots walk on water and come to rest on the bank.In fairness he was good value for the 2s competition, brought in 19 points on the back 9 .Tiger now reckons he is good for a cut of a few shots before Roscrea but we thought he was being a bit too hard on himself.Another great boards outing Thanks to the committee once again.

Sounds like a great day, nice win Space, that's a bloody good score.

    Looking forward to Roscrea.

A disappointing round for myself but a pleasure to witness the power hitting of Reganovski :)
A bit more luck on the greens and it would have been an under par round.

Congrats to all the winners and looking forward to the relatively shorter trip to Roscrea next month

A great day yesterday at Gowran Park. Hadn't played it before and didn't know what to expect. Besides the first 3 holes, I think the course is very memorable.
Some of the holes outside the track are fabulous....the 4th, 7th and 15th spring to mind.

Delighted the way I played too. Definitely the best round I've played this year.
1 over par that included 2 birdies, a double and 1 bogey. I think I only missed 3 greens and 3 fairways.

The double I had was a 4 putt on the Index 1 Par 5. If the putter was anyway decent, I think I could've been under par.

Congrats to spacecoyote and ssbob. Great shooting. Delighted that ssbob finally got into the prizes. Time for a cut though ssbob :)

Thanks to paulos53 and recycled. I thoroughly enjoyed their company and thanks for the encouragement on the way round.

    Few photos below.....

We had the pleasure of that ourselves. Amazing distance & accuracy. Every time we looked back from the green there was a ball sitting within about 30-40 yards of us

Had a very enjoyable round with spacecoyote and Charlie. Thankfully got lucky with the weather, thought once the heaven's opened before the round they wouldn't close again. Have to keep remembering it's Ireland and anything's possible :pac:

I was especially lucky as I didn't bring any waterproofs due to the foolhardiness of youth (except I'm not that young :D)

Really enjoyed the course, I like a tree lined course as I find it tends to focus the mind :)

Didn't quite get the big score I was hoping for but was happy enough with 37 points for my best boards effort yet. After a good bit of work on the range and course I feel that big score is just around the corner ;)

Well done to Spacecoyote on the victory, had the pleasure of watching him plot his way around the course. Didn't enjoy being outdriven by his hybrid on every hole, however :pac:

I'll have the R11s in the bag for Roscrea so that won't happen again ;) Charlie tried to tell me it's down to technique but I don't belive him :P

Thanks to Charlie and the committee for organising another great day out and roll on Roscrea :)

I have finally discovered the secret to good golf and I think my wife will love this "Play Less":eek::eek:

41pts yet I left it out there, so annoyed with my final two holes, was hitting SW for both from the middle of the fairway and only made 1 point on each!! For the first time in a while I finished with the same ball that I started so even with all the trouble that was there I managed to avoid the most of it.

Fair play to Space and also Reganovski, I feel bad shooting an 89 and still getting 2nd place ahead of Reganovski's 72:eek::eek::eek:

Thanks to Kiers(Long Drive)47 and also A Post Punk. Note to handicap secretary, even after cutting Kiers just before he went out, he had 16pts for his last 5 holes:eek::eek::eek: Played em in 1 under and should have been 2 under!

Biggest gripe of the day was losing out on long drive, I had 294 yards, Kiers had 295 yards, I made him measure it!!

This will get me into the Ryder Jug reckoning but at the moment I am 90% certain I can't play so for those of you behind me, there is hope yet!

"Tiger now reckons he is good for a cut of a few shots before Roscrea but we thought he was being a bit too hard on himself."

Bobster i did,nt know you did stand up:) anyway i have to say i really enjoyed saturday with a slow start it was great to get going on the back nine and finally managed to get a two on the 9th par 3 nearest the pin for all of 1minute only to watch 3putt get inside me as i walked on to the next tee:mad: and just like the buses i was waiting ages and two come along together with probably the best 7 iron of my career so far to the 155yard par 3 13th.

And to cap a great day i managed to find out macker's kryptonite:P which i will be holding as my ace card for mount juliet if i am still in contention.
Once again thanks to charlie and the lads for picking and organising a great list of golf courses this year.

ps thanks to rory i picked myself a secondhand burner 2.0 which i am already looking forward to spliting roscrea's fairways with:pac:.

well done lads on all this great scoring. Couple of lads there have a score over 3 outings Jocky Wilson would be proud of.

Must be savage cuts on the way.

We on Boards here love our cuts. :D

Only - messing of course ;)

Been waiting a year and a half to get my back on you for that long drive!!! Was worth every inch of it.

For the first time in a long time I felt mental rather than ability errors cost me strokes. Scratched the first when I only had 40yds left for my 3rd shot and was so annoyed. It took a birdie on the 14th(sand save) to kick me into gear. Then parred the last 4 and missed a 3footer on 18 after a great approach.

Was a nice course and wouldn't mind another crack at the place. Cheers to my playing partners A Post Punk and ssbob who undoubtedly should have taken the win but he will have other days for sure.
