I've been dipping in and out of AH for the last while. I don't post as much as I used to, but I'll give an auld thanks to a post that I think is good.

But I've noticed that people are getting really stingy with their thanks. Back in the day (when this was all fields), a decent post would be thanked. Now it seems like it's more of a political Eurovision scene. Thanks count is not going to make or break anyone's day (I hope), but I always thought of it a basic response. Like laughing or nodding your head in real life.

    What's happened the thanks??

I haven't noticed any drop in "thanks" being given.

Are you getting paranoid no-one likes you on here?

I'm still getting used to this newfangled thanks button.

    "Have a pity thanks."

    "Is there any other kind..?"

    Slow day on AH...

Ha - I know. I only start threads about the important things.

I still stand by my views though.

Your welcome. Actually, no. Welcome is over there. I'm always getting you two mixed up.

    :( Harsh. It's a legitimate observation. Kinda.

FYI there is a limit to the total number of Thanks that Boards can support at any one time; every time you Thank a post, a Thank is taken from one of your own posts.

There should be a "you're welcome" button for when someone thanks you. People would say thanks more often then.

The worst is when a mod makes a "funny". The amount of thanks it will receive is probably double of that a regular poster would get. Pathetic.

That's only when the quote quota is exceeded though. When the quote quota and the thanks limit have been breached, a puppy catches on fire.

Feck - I shouldn't have quoted you there to make my point. Sorry burned puppy.

The thanks are still there to be found! Probably my finest hour on AH, post 10 on this thread.

Every now and than I look back for some shameless ego stroking, just to see what once was :o :pac:

When I see a post I like I doff my imaginary cap at the screen in a salutary manner. I'm comfortable that I thanked the post in an anonymous, dignified and respectable fashion, in my own head at least.

Boards. IE are sooooooo behind. You should be able to buy ’thanks’ for €5 each from a handle randomly generated and not already in boards as a real individual. Think of it as a kind of rent a crowd analogy. Except no real individual looks stupid for thanking you. This is done on Facebook with the like option. Explains why I'm not on GB too.

Is there anything you can do with these "Thanks" once you've amassed them?

    No. That's not cool.

"Dignified and respectable." What's wrong with you man?

You can exchange them for stamps at the GPO. 1,000 thanks = one stamp. The stamp has a picture of a flower on it. :)

You kind of just... stare at them and tell yourself how great you are. I mean, loads of "Thanks" = you are super popular, right?

    .... right? :o

That's just beautiful. My new career will be as a "Thanks" lady of the evening (I was going to type whore but seeing your cherub faced avitar caused me to euphamise my post).:p

You'd almost be tempted to use the line again, or change the animal for originality :pac:

Yay I almost have 9 stamps!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,293 ✭✭✭✭Mint Sauce

A thanks whore thread where the OP has more thanks than the second post. Well I never.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,622 ✭✭✭Ruu

Being charged 50c per thanks, you really have to be careful which posts you thank. Has to be really worth it. What if I want to thank the postman? Sorry, used them all up on boards!

At the risk of derailing my own thread - Over There? We miss that guy.

Don't know the Welcome fella though.
