Except that local government doesn't make road traffic law. That's for the oireachtas. The law that obliges bikes to stop at red lights is made by our national legislature- not planning and not local representatives.

What are you rambling on about. I had a quick glance through your recent posts and can't find much in the way of real questions. You have made a number of wildly inaccurate statements but I'm not sure what questions your waiting to be answered.

    Link?

I can properly find a link to your brother's death in Ovens, and yes he did hit my van, but I was NOT the one who killed him.

You make an accusation you got to back it up.

I drive with MY attention, it's a crying shame that women are lamenting their deceased four year olds by car traffic and blaming the council for not putting in speed bumps.

When these same individuals use excess velocity having UNLOADED their brood and then use even increased velocity and nearly plough under her neighbours' children in the process.

As the intelligent can see I've used secret words so the unclean can see but not read.

Not once have any of you answered a question.. Says a lot about the intelligence of cyclists doesn't it.. This responses on this thread is reason enough for cyclists to be made to sit a test and have some sort of ID on the bike or themselves.

And the reason they don't pay tax is because bikes do practically 0 damage to roads. If everyone cycled the road maintenance bill would plummet.

If you actually believe the rate of car tax (pre-2008 or otherwise) is based on the amount it costs to maintain the roads you're terribly naive.

It's about how much can be extracted from the motorist while keeping the motor industry afloat.

Every new road should by law be required to include a two-way cycle lane segregated from the vehicle carriageway and where a cycle lane exists (even if it's in rag order, unless it's so bad that it's unsafe) there should be very large fines for cyclists who refuse to use them.

Yeah right.. Traffic being able to go 100kph on Irelands longest carpark

You do know that filtering through traffic by motorbikes is not illegal in Ireland right?

And that the Garda turn a blind eye to motorbikes using bus lanes? (It is unofficial policy according to a traffic cop I was speaking to..as long as you don't act the maggot)

Have had Garda cars/bikes behind me on a daily basis in the bus lane of the N11. Never pulled once in 9 years.

    Talk about a double standard.........:D

Cyclists get slagged off - rightly - for ignoring the law, but it's ok for motorcyclists to ignore the same laws???

And the M1 isn't a car park 24/7 - I travel in early morning and I'm not talking about a motorcyclist filtering through stalled or slow moving traffic, but ones who zip between vehicles moving at motorway speeds.

    :)

Why just pick on cyclists constantly?

I presume the speedo is reading km/hr........not that it makes a whole of difference.

Yup km but the speedo tops at 299 when clearly at points it accelerates past that.

And I imagine they would use them. I love the few two-way cycle lanes that there are in Dublin city centre, complete with their own traffic lights. The highlighted bit is just assumptive aggression towards cyclists.

    What a post :D
This thread now resembles a looney tunes cartoon for the sheer absurdity it is reaching.

Anyway I'm not going to bother arguing I asked you what questions you asked and instead of answering that question you make some bizarre reference to 80's American football movies. Why that sport, why that time period ill never know.

The best part is despite rants like yours an aim of the irish goverment and the eu is to drive down car usage and increase other modes of transport. A large part of that will involve making roads and cities safer for bikes and pedestrians and to try and discourage private car usage. This will be done in many ways including increasing the cost of car usage, using speed restrictions in cities etc.
The benefits derived from such an aim are too numerous to bother trying to list them all but include health as well as social benefits.

So do enjoy your illinformed rants, but for me
    That's all folks!

I have a non-assumptive, totally intact and justified problem with cyclists who use the road in a manner that needlessly disrupts others. Same as I have a contempt for other road users who do the same ;)

If a road user can do his or her level best not to get in other people's way unreasonably, then happy days.

Most cyclist are not oblivious to do that.
I'd wonder if there was a reason he felt the need to weave?

I often get off the bike and cross via foot path when comes to round abouts myself. (because I once had some idiot overtake me on a roundabout, then slam the breaks right in front of me. Literally right infront of me. Driver on the left lane was as shocked as I. And luckily had been further back, as I ended up swerving out to the left.)

You do know though, there are easily more drivers who don't know how to use a roundabout correctly than cyclists?
I'm sure you can think of many incidents where there's an idiot driver, not indicating/being on the wrong lane etc.
I assure you in this particular case, he just seemed to be dodging traffic. A lot of Cyclists just seem to think they're exempt from the rules and then when they get hurt of course it's someone else's fault because they're only on a bike. That guy yesterday was behind me, weaved in and cut in infront of me, and had I given him a smack of the car you can bet I'd have been the one up **** creek with no paddle. No helmet on him either!!!

I don't know, it takes a strange sort of person to go out and play Russian roulette with their lives.

You'd wonder sometimes if they're trying to get knocked down.

And there's a special place in hell for the assholes who cycle on pedestrian paths.
