    How about DDG as captain?

    How about DDG as captain?

Little bit soon I'd say but either way a persons personality plays a big part in choosing a captain and none of us know any players personaltys so LVG and Giggsy will be well able!

I would be shocked if RVP is not the new captain.

Question: Can with the proper coaching RVP, Rooney, Mata and Kagawa work as an attacking 4 or is their not enough pace/too many of them out of position, I firmly believe with the way the game is evolving that the days of the winger and goal poaching striker are dead, instead wingers/ strikers are attackers, evidence of this are robben, sanchez, reus

    Could this work

    De Gea

    Rafael---Hummels/OR another
    Evans
    Shaw

    Hererra
    Strootman

    Rooney
    Mata
    Kagawa

    RVP

That "Sport" newspaper are claiming Hummels told Barcelona he wants to join United. I'll believe it when i see it.

    Are they reliable or raggy?

Rooney Mata and Kagawa are the dilemma at the moment when you try and make a team of what we have, I think you can effectively rotate Mata and Kagawa across a season and maybe play one of them out of position on occasion when it's needed but Rooney doesn't fit in at all unless we play two up front or continue to compromise with Rooney behind RVP and Mata out wide

I don't see LVG compromising to fit a player in, it's not in his philosophy

If it's two up front then we'll be lining up like Holland at the World Cup, I wasn't really thrilled by that style it was a bit negative to say the least but I suppose we will have better wing backs than Kuyt and Blind and hopefully a better midfield so it might work out great

I can't wait for the first few games so we can finally put all of this to bed and see what way Van Gaal wants to play

With our current squad I can see Van Gaal doing something like this, encouraging full backs to create width. Feel Clev could play a big part for us if we don't sign another cm.

    ..................De Gea
    ............ Jones Smalling

    Rafael.........Fellaini............Shaw

    ..........Cleverly......Herrera

    .........Mata
    ....................... Rooney
    .................. RvP

Seems a lot of papers are running with Hummel's to us. The mirror, daily star and express,

Most just saying Dortmund bought a young cb so its possible he could leave others mentioning he is now writing more in English lately on his twitter so it could mean something ( personally I don't see anything in that) and the are saying barca are now going for Valencia's cb so it gives us a chance,

Im in the same boat as you I won't believe it until I see it

Was impressed with how LVG handled himself during the press conferance , it was a stark contrast to what we saw from David Moyes. I think the important thing's wasn't so much in what he said but what he didn't say.

On the Wayne Rooney question , I think the way he answered it was a subtle hint that he won't be taking any rubbish from Rooney with toys being throwing out of the pram , 'maturity' regardless of age etc...what I took from that is that he would have no problem dropping Rooney from the squad if he doesn't work very hard, play well and score goals he won't be biased on his reputation in England or past success/experience..

Maybe that's reading too much into it , but that's the way I saw it. I think Janizai will be a big player under LVG this season , he will help him develop and give him first team games/big games..

Would love Hummels , love it! But he is going to cost us more than 20 million , probably in or around 30 million IMO he's the best CB in the world right now..and was before they won the world cup..

Paper gossip this morning is that West Ham want Young and Zaha.

I doubt very much that LvG wants a winger who never looks up so I hope Young likes London.

I cant see West Ham even matching 50% of his wages never mind full thing.

I see that Herrera was wearing 21 in training yesterday, his old number from Bilbao.Wanted an away jersey with his name and number but ordered it yesterday and didn't want to take a chance so plumped for Van Persie instead.

Not every footballer is a mercenary. If LVG tells young he's out of his plans he'll cut his wages and go and play football somewhere else.

Judging him by his form since joining United, his options will be limited,he should take what he's offered.
The phrase "stealing a living" was never so apt.

Yeah I'm afraid he can be added to another one of Fergies flops..

Was told at start of week that Anderson won't be going on the tour. Not sure if that may poss have changed tho with Carrick injury #mufc
Carrick's 12-week lay off (and could be longer) intensifies Van Gaal's need for two more midfielders http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/football/clubs/manchesterunited/article4150330.ece … #mufc

Vidal is in Chile at the moment but will be back in Italy next Friday, there's chatter that a bid from United is on the table and it's up to Vidal now plus Juve still want Nani.

Dude, you realise there are only two players in there who don't already play for United? :D

If I'm not mistaken, Carrick has had trouble with his ankle/achilles before, it might just compplicate matters.

I think he could still have a big part to play under LVG in that holding midfield/auxillary centre back position he uses. The fact he singled him out yesterday was significant.

I thought he singled out Carrick because he was asked about experience and Carrick is the oldest player in the squad, no?

Excluding Evra, since he appears to be out.

I think Carricks main role will be helping the younger and new lads adapt to the playing in the centre of the team. Herrara will need some help coming in to a new club and if Powell is given an opportunity (I hope he is) he would need someone like Carrick to help him imo.

Carrick will be a big loss at the start of the season, I don't think he gets the sort of respect he deserves.

I'd have to re watch it but didnt he say age doesn't necessarily say you have experience? Think he was asked about Rooney and he went on to say that it doesn't matter what age you are to have experience. And then he went on to say Carrick has a lot of experience and that his experience will be useful.

    Exactly... :P

They've bought 20 yr old Mathias Ginter, which means they now have 4 center halves. He's been signed as backup after last season when they were down to playing midfielders at center half due to injury. Hummels also has 3 yrs left on his contract. Unless they sign another center half and a bid above £35m goes in, he's going nowhere.
